Splenda, the sugar substitute made from dextrose, maltodextrin, and sucralose, is owned by Johnson and Johnson and marketed / distributed by McNeil Nutritionals. A recent review of some of their domain names reveals some disturbing trends.
A word of advice: If you are going to protect your reputation online by buying up negative brand-related domains (which makes good business sense) at least register them under some obscure DBA or something. Don’t use your primary business name, becase it just looks… bad.
Just a few of the domain names owned by Johnson & Johnson, Splenda’s parent company:
splendakills.net
splendapoison.com
thedangersofsplenda.com
thefactsaboutsplenda.com

splendasideeffects.com
splendadangers.com
splendadiabetes.com
splendaisnotsafe.com
And hundreds more, according to Daily Domainer. Not being one to regurgitate news without checking it out ourselves, US Recall News did a quick fact check on this and found that, indeed, Johnson and Johnson does own domains like:

J&J, T&L – Are you guys trying to hide something? Do you know something your consumers don’t know? Or is this just a form of reputation management? Either way, it looks pretty bad.

I can not tell you what a find this article is.
I always get headaches from any (synthetic) sugar substitute [except in the old days of saccharine [sp?] and “Tab” — Coke’s original diet drink — et al].
I imagine that there may be an alternative as to why they may own the names, to avoid competitors getting these names and causing trouble, but that’s prolly the “Pollyanna” in me coming out.
What a hoot – good job!
Peace

J&J is not trying to hide anything! If they are be faulted for it should be that they have bought these domain names from what I would call domestic terrorists.
One website said that Splenda caused weight gain! Yes, you will gain weight using Splenda if you only cut out sugar and drive up carb and calorie intake! Some people want to drink diet cokes and eat two Big Macs and complain that can’t lose weight and it’s this kind of scenerio that drives this type of thinking.

I was in Sam’s club in Metairie, LA on Feb. 12th, 2009 and was informed that there was a recall on Splenda. Could you confirm this for me. I do have a lot of Splenda and I need to know should I discard it right now. Please let me know your response asap.
Thank you,

On Feb 7, 2009, I was also at Sam’s Club in Texas and I was informed that there was a recall on Splenda Individual Packets. I have searched online regarding this recall, but I did not come up with anything. I would like to know about this please.

I heard that Splenda had been recalled but I can’t find anything on line that says anything about it. I need to know this information as I use it all the time and have just gotten a large bag and a large box of packets. Please let me know as soon as possible if this is true or if it’s just a rumor. I sure would like to continue using it but would feel better knowing if there is a recall so that I can return it if there is.
Thank you.

You guys are aware that Dick Cheney started Splenda right ? The guy who is FOR torture? And torture doesn’t mean waterboarding it means ALL torture methods. They have lots of methods … many die during “questioning”.
Would you eat something Cheney gave you?

Splenda made me sick physically, emotionally and mentally. It is true poison and yes I also gained 40 lbs while using Splenda! I had never used artificial sweeteners before but was deceived by the clever advertising gimmics! “Made from sugar so it tastes like sugar”…it is FAR from sugar. Stay away – throw away any and all products with with this crap recall or no recall – thank goodness my 8 year old is now a “label reader” and will not touch anything with sucralose (splenda), aspartame, nutrisweet….it will make you “mysteriously” ill.
Bambi says
That’s funny, I’ve used the product for years and have never had any side effects or problems or weight gain. Splenda will not make you gain weight. That’s just ridiculous. It has no calories. The only reason people gain weight is they are taking in more calories than they are burning.
