My husband and I ate at the Country Cottage restaurant 4 times within the dates of Aug. 15 through Aug. 25. 2008. We live at Locust Grove and my husband owned Charlie’s In-n-Out and I teach music there. The Ingles man who died was a musician and a christian and we as a community hate that this happened. I heard yesterday that he ate sweet potatoes and catfish. Catfish is cooked at a very high temperature and there is very litle reason to believe that catfish is the culprit. I ate catfish there on the 17 but did not eat sweet potatoes because I am allergic to the red dye 40 which causes me to break out in a rash.
I think if there were a recall on the sweet potatoes because of E-Coli, that it could very likely have caused his death. A girl from our school who has been in ICU may have also eaten the sweet potatoes. The Cottage hardly ever serves ground beef except for the meatloaf and it would be interesting to note if the victims ate any. The sweet potatoes come packaged and the Cottage would not be responsible for packaging which was contaminated. I went to the doctor this week and a blood test showed I do not have any infection in my bloodstream. I just recently had valve replacement and would never put myself at risk for an infection which could infect my heart. I am not in any way biased and hope that you would survey the situation to prevent others from becoming ill.
Sincerely,
