Remember the chemical that killed so many of our pets earlier this year? Well it’s back, but this time it is finding its way into the foods and drinks our children consume.
FDA and Tristar Food of Jersey City, New Jersey have initiated a nationwide recall in the United States for 100 ml plastic bottle packages of Blue Cat Flavor Drink (Lanmao) because it may be contaminated with Melamine. This comes after a rash of melamine contaminations in China, and one other US melamine contamination earlier this week.
Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic, and melamine foam, a polymeric cleaning product. Melamine is described as being “Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Chronic exposure may cause cancer or reproductive damage.
This recall is for 100 ml plastic bottles of all four flavors (see below) of Blue Cat flavored drink. This product was distributed at Asian grocery stores nationwide. There is a logo of a blue cat on the back and the word “blue cat” on the front of the drink is written in Chinese lettering.
Four Flavors of Blue Cat:
1. Strawberry, with red strawberry picture on the bottle.
2. Sweet Orange, with orange picture on the bottle
3. Pineapple, with green pineapple picture on the bottle
4. Peach, with pink peach picture on the bottle
