WindowTex has recalled about 6,800 of their Idler Roller Window Shades. The steel pin inserted into the idler on the shades can come loose and the shade will fall from the mounting bracket, posing a risk of injury from impact to those nearby.
The company has already received 6 reports of the steel pins becoming dislodged and causing some of the shades to fall, but no injuries have been reported. Home-owners with the recalled window shades are encouraged to contact the place of purchase for instructions on how to schedule a service call to obtain free replacement idlers. They can also contact WindowTex for help with identifying their authorized dealers, who are already contacting all known purchasers.
This recall involves WindowTex custom-made fabric roller window shades that are raised and lowered by a side-mounted chain. The recalled shades have an idler with steel pin inserted into one end of the roller tube. The steel pin is used to connect the window shade to the metal mounting bracket. Roller shades included in this recall have idlers with model number D15T, used with a 1½ inch roller tube, and model number D20T, used with a 2 inch roller tube. They were obtained from WindowTex authorized dealers nationwide April 2014 to June 2014. Average price ranged from $100 to $500.
