Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough Recall

June 20, 2009 By E. Sizemore 2 Comments

Nestle Recalls all Varieties of Prepackaged, Refrigerated Toll House Cookie Dough

nestle cookie dough recall imageThe FDA and CDC today warned consumers not to eat any varieties of prepackaged Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough due to the risk of contamination with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

The FDA advises consumers who have prepackaged, refrigerated Nestle Toll House cookie dough products to throw them away. Cooking the dough is not recommended either, because consumers might get the E. coli bacteria on their hands and on other cooking surfaces.

Retailers, restaurateurs, and personnel at other food-service operations should not sell or serve any Nestle refrigerated cookie dough products subject to this Toll House Cookie Dough recall.

Nestle USA, which makes the Toll House cookie dough, is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the FDA and CDC. The warning is based on an ongoing epidemiological study conducted by the CDC and several state and local health departments. Since March 2009 there have been 66 reports of Toll House Cookie Dough-related E. coli illness across 28 states. At least twenty-five persons were hospitalized; 7 with a severe complication called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). So far there have been no deaths.

Symptoms of E. coli O157:H7 Sickness

Contact your doctor immediately if you have experienced the following after eating the recalled Nestle Toll House cookie dough: abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloody stools. Any E. coli related illness should also be reported to your state health department.

Consumers who have additional questions about these products should contact Nestle consumer services at 1-800-559-5025 and/or visit their Web site at www.verybestbaking.com.

If there is a recall on Nestle Toll House cookie dough then why hasn’t this product been removed from store shelfs….I purchased two packages yestarday, Nov, 3rd and then my daughter tells me that the cookie dough has been recalled, I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t mentioned it to my daughter…I will be taking the cookie dough back to the store tomorrow with a copy of this notice of the recall and see what they have to say…How are we the consumer to know what has been recalled if the stores are still carrying the products….I will have to contact the FDA and CDC to let them know, about the stores carrying contaminated goods with E.coli bacteria..
