Graco Branded Aspen Crib Recalled for Risk of Suffocation
The Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPSC ), in cooperation with Simplicity Incorporated, of Reading Pennsylvania, has announced a voluntary recall of the Aspen 3-in-1 Graco Cribs.
Parents are advised to stop using these cribs immediately, as the mattress support may come loose and allow part of the mattress to fall, thus posing a serious suffocation hazard to children.
Over 100,000 of the Graco Branded Aspen Cribs are being recalled, after Simplicity Inc. received 14 reports of the support coming loose, eight of which involved entrapment. Five injuries have already been reported.
The recalled Graco Cribs are wooden, and include only the model number 8740KCW SC, with the serial numbers 2803 SC to 1605. You can find the model and serial number on the envelope attached to the mattress support.
The Graco Baby Cribs were made in China and sold at many department stores from August, 2003 to May, 2005 for approximately $130 US Dollars.
Consumers should stop using the cribs immediately, and call Simplicity Inc. to receive a retrofit kit at the following number: (800) 784-1982 or visit the Web site at www.simplicityforchildren.com .
