Pierino Frozen Foods Inc. of Lincoln Park, Michigan is recalling its 24 oz. packages of Pierino Frozen Foods’ “Jumbo Shells with Cheese” because they contain undeclared eggs. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled “Jumbo Shells with Cheese” were distributed in retail stores in Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida.
The “Jumbo Shells with Cheese” product comes in a 24 oz. package marked with UPC numbers 039106333347 on the back center of the package with an expiration date 01/2011 and all dates prior to 01/2011.
To date Pierino Frozen Foods knows of one confirmed mild reaction reported by a consumer of this product.
Pierino Frozen Foods immediately took action toward a recall after it was discovered that the egg ingredient was undeclared on packaging. Subsequent investigation indicated the problem was with labeling.
Distribution of the “Jumbo Shells with Cheese” manufactured by Pierino Frozen Foods has been suspended until new packaging is available, which will contain wording in the product ingredient statement stating that there are eggs in the product.
Consumers who have purchased 24oz. packages of “Jumbo Shells with Cheese” and are allergic to eggs are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
