As a precautionary measure, Provide Commerce, Inc. of San Diego, CA has initiated a nationwide voluntary recall of certain items distributed under Provide Commerce’s brand names of ProFlowers, Cherry Moon Farms, Secret Spoon, RedEnvelope and Shari’s Berries. These items may contain peanuts recalled by the Peanut Corporation of America on January 28, 2009, due to possible contamination with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail and elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web-site at https://www.cdc.gov.
Provide Commerce is recalling these products out of the abundance of caution. There have been no illnesses or injuries reported to date affiliated with these products. Anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a physician immediately.
