FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — MARCH 1, 2009 — BENEFICIAL FOODS/ NATURE’S CANDY IS RECALLING IT’S HEALTH BARS CONTAINING PEANUTS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA. THE RECALLED PRODUCTS CONTAIN PEANUT PRODUCTS SUPPLIED BY PEANUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA, WHICH HAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED AN EXPANSION OF A VOLUNTARY RECALL COVERING ALL PEANUT PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED AND DISTRIBUTED FROM THEIR PLAINVIEW, TX PLANT. PEANUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA IS CURRENTLY THE FOCUS OF AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION CONCERNING THE RECENT SALMONELLA OUTBREAK. SALMONELLA IS AN ORGANISM WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS AND SOMETIMES FATAL INFECTIONS IN YOUNG CHILDREN, FRAIL OR ELDERLY PEOPLE, AND OTHERS WITH WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEMS. HEALTHY PERSONS INFECTED WITH SALMONELLA OFTEN EXPERIENCE FEVER, DIARRHEA (WHICH MAY BE BLOODY), NAUSEA, VOMITING AND ABDOMINAL PAIN. IN RARE CIRCUMSTANCES, INFECTION WITH SALMONELLA CAN RESULT IN THE ORGANISM GETTING INTO THE BLOODSTREAM AND PRODUCING MORE SEVERE ILLNESSES SUCH AS ARTERIAL INFECTIONS (I.E., INFECTED ANEURYSMS), ENDOCARDITIS AND ARTHRITIS.

NO ILLNESSES ASSOCIATED WITH ANY OF OUR RECALLED PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO DATE.

THE ABOVE PRODUCTS WERE DISTRIBUTED NATIONWIDE THROUGH DISTRIBUTORS, RETAIL STORES, AND MAIL ORDER.
