Cougar Mountain Baking Company Recalls Its Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk, and Ballpark Cookies and Cookie Dough

COUGAR MOUNTAIN BAKING COMPANY OF SEATTLE, WA IS ISSUING A VOLUNTARY RECALL ON ITS PEANUT BUTTER, PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHUNK, AND BALLPARK COOKIES AND COOKIE DOUGH PRODUCTS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA.

SALMONELLA IS AN ORGANISM WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS AND SOMETIMES FATAL INFECTIONS IN YOUNG CHILDREN, FRAIL OR ELDERLY PEOPLE, AND OTHERS WITH WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEMS. HEALTHY PERSONS INFECTED WITH SALMONELLA OFTEN EXPERIENCE FEVER, DIARRHEA (WHICH MAY BE BLOODY), NAUSEA, VOMITING AND ABDOMINAL PAIN. IN RARE CIRCUMSTANCES, INFECTION WITH SALMONELLA CAN RESULT IN THE ORGANISM GETTING INTO THE BLOODSTREAM AND PRODUCING MORE SEVERE ILLNESSES SUCH AS ARTERIAL INFECTIONS (I.E., INFECTED ANEURYSMS), ENDOCARDITIS AND ARTHRITIS.

THE FOLLOWING 10 RECALLED PRODUCTS WERE SOLD THROUGH GROCERY AND RETAIL STORES IN CALIFORNIA, OREGON, NEW YORK, AND WASHINGTON, AND THROUGH INTERNET MAILORDER NATIONWIDE. IN ADDITION, COOKIE DOUGH PRODUCTS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FUNDRAISING ORGANIZATIONS IN WASHINGTON. PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK NAMES, WEIGHTS, UPC CODES, AND BEST-BEFORE DATES TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THE AFFECTED PRODUCTS. ONLY PRODUCTS WITHIN SPECIFIC DATE CODES ARE AFFECTED: BRAND: COUGAR MOUNTAIN (THIS IS THE BRAND ON ALL 10 PRODUCTS BELOW)

NO KNOWN ILLNESSES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO DATE IN CONNECTION WITH THESE PRODUCTS. THIS RECALL WAS INITIATED AFTER OUR SUPPLIER NOTIFIED COUGAR MOUNTAIN BAKING COMPANY THAT PEANUTS SOLD TO US WERE SUPPLIED BY PEANUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA. COUGAR MOUNTAIN BAKING COMPANY HAS INFORMED THE FDA OF ITS ACTIONS AND IS FULLY COOPERATING WITH THE AGENCY. CONSUMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED THE RECALLED PRODUCTS FROM A RETAILER ARE URGED TO DESTROY THEM OR RETURN THEM TO THE RETAILER FOR A REFUND. CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASED THESE PRODUCTS DIRECTLY FROM COUGAR MOUNTAIN BAKING COMPANY VIA OUR WEBSITE, PLEASE CUT OUT THE UPC CODE FROM THE PACKAGE, DESTROY THE PRODUCT, AND MAIL US THE UPC CODE LABEL ALONG WITH YOUR NAME AND MAILING ADDRESS, AND WE WILL SEND YOU A REFUND CHECK INCLUDING THE COST OF YOUR POSTAGE.
