I have a control that burnt up with a model # 202-205114. Yes, it may be a different #, but awfully close. After speaking to the representative from BACK-PAK , I realize this manufacturing defect isn’t addressed in the recall. My concern is faulty components, not the cover. This is commonly called the root cause of a problem. I would never purchase a spa where the life expectancy of the control is 5 to 6 years with the purchaser bearing the cost of replacement. This particular unit was upgraded, for reasons not disclosed by the manufaucturer and the control is obsolete. I wonder how many other Gecko controls have burnt up only to not be covered by any claim?

I also have a control that just burnt up medel 202-205097. instead of 0297 that was recalled. The heter stays on or wonèt come on due to a defect in te board. This board goes for $700 locally. Indeed when the heater remains on and the pump stops mixing, this is the root cause of the fire hazard. I can imagine that Gecko wants to keep the cost of this recall under control, but this is a serious hazard to be letting hundreds of units uncovered. I had a technician come over to check the heater control and he didn’t even know about this recall.
    Anyone else?

Our Gecko Spa Pack just caught fire too. #0202-205093 (S Pack) and of course its exactly 1 year past the warranty… 6 years old 🙁 Looks like the same issue as above. I just happened to do a Google search for replacement part pricing and stumbled across this recall. I did notice on a Spa website that the author suggested replacing the 5/5.5W heater element with a unit that uses 4W. Looks like its a widespread issue. I’ll be calling the manufacturer shortly…

Mine burnt as well 0302-110589, Dealer said not covered, I called Hydropool directly and they covered it under the recall. No muss, no fuss. I have to pay the labour, but I’m ok with that. It pays to deal with a great Canadian company!
