About 7,000 Cost Plus World Market Modular Storage Bars have been recalled. Do to faulty manufacturing, the screws securing the mounting plate to the bar can pull out when weight is applied and the bar could fall, which poses an injury risk.
No injuries have been reported, but the firm has received one report of a short storage bar pulling away from the wall. Meijer is encouraging customers to stop using the storage bars and return them to any Cost Plus World Market or World Market store for a free replacement.
The recall includes wall-mounted storage bars made of medium-density fiberboard with an oak wood finish that allow hanging storage accessories to be attached. The storage bars were sold in two sizes; long and short. The long bar is 36 inches in length and the short bar is 23.5 inches in length. The accessories are sold separately and include items such as a black metal mesh basket, key hooks and S-hooks. The storage bars have SKU numbers 491996 (long) and 491997 (short) printed on the UPC sticker attached to the product packaging. There are no identifying labels on the product itself.
The storage bars were obtained from Cost Plus World Market and World Market stores nationwide and online at www.worldmarket.com from June to August 2014 for between about $20 and $25.
