Popkoff Frozen Food, dba Blossom Foods, a San Francisco, Calif. establishment is recalling approximately 500 pounds of frozen, pureed chicken products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The products contain the allergen, soy, which is not declared on the label.
The products subject to recall include:
- 5-oz. single-serving cups of “BLOSSOM FOODS-DARK AND WHITE MEAT CHICKEN WITH VEGETABLES.”
- 5-pound bags of “BLOSSOM FOODS-DARK AND WHITE MEAT CHICKEN WITH VEGETABLES.”
The products also bear the establishment number “P-4966” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging. The products were produced on various dates between May and Nov. 29, 2011. They were sold to institutions in the San Francisco and Oakland, Calif. areas and directly to consumers via the Internet.
The problem was discovered by FSIS during a routine label review at the establishment and may have resulted from a change in chicken base. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
Consumers and media with questions about the recall should contact the company’s owner, Sue Adams, at (510) 339-3913.
