46,800 of UVEX Sport’s Bicycle Helmets were recalled due to a manufacturer’s defect, and so do not comply with the impact requirements of the CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets.
The anchor for the chinstrap can break and cause the helmet to fall off, which poses a head injury hazard to riders. The recalled helmets are stamped with the following model numbers:
XB017, XB022, XB025, XB027, XB032, XB036 and XB038.
No injuries have been reported, but cyclists should stop using the helmets and are encouraged to contact UVEX for a free compliant helmet or a refund of the purchase price.
This recall involves seven models of UVEX helmets. The helmets come in a variety of colors with different colored chin straps. The helmets have a model number inside the helmet under the fitting pad on the top right side. The helmets were purchased from sporting goods and bicycle specialty stores nationwide September 2009 to June 2014. Average price was $100 to $260.
