About 83 thousand IonizAir Air Purifiers have been recalled by P3 International due to a potential fire hazard. In cooperation with the CPSC, P3 International announced that they were recalling the table top air purification systems after receiving at least ten reports of the air purifiers melting or catching fire.
These air purifiers were imported by P3 International, of New York, N.Y. and manufacturered by Leaven Enterprise, of Taiwan. They were sold at various retailers and online from January 2003 through July 2004 and cost anywhere between $60 and $90 USD.
The fire hazard is caused by the air purifier’s cartridge overheating. The recalled air purifier is a tabletop model that is about 6″ x 3 1/2″ x 11 1/4″. It has a removable cartridge with a silver-colored handle. See pictures below.
The air purifier recall involves model number P4620 with lot numbers beginning with either 03 or 04 or having no lot number. The lot number is located on the bottom of the air purifier.
If you own one of these recalled IonizAir Air Purifiers you are advised to stop using it immediately and unplug the unit before calling P3 International at (888) 734-0449 for a free replacement cartridge.
