Thanks for the info….but if people weren’t feeding their dogs cheap crap like this then they’d all be safe. I feed Havok Dick Van Patton’s Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish. http://www.petfooddirect.com

I too, feed my dog Dick Van Patton’s Natural Balance (The cats get Evolve, a higher grade, natural cat food) These foods may cost more at the outset, but fill your pet up while actually eating less, since it is meat based, not ‘meal’ based. Cheap stuff would be like us eating a diet of popcorn, hot dog bits and bone meal on a daily basis…… need I say more?

I dont feed my dog cheap food, but its messed up that you 2 think all the food on this list is cheap when its not. the Havok is a great food but its not the only good one out there. Try looking up prices before you pimp out your perferd brand, you just sound stupid calling some expansive foods “cheap crap”, its not the money its the quality.

Thanks for the information, I was pleased to NOT find my pet foods on the list.
That however does not mean I am home free….new brands are listed every day.
In the investigation for pet foods
I heard there are 700 plus companys in the United States and only 30 % are INSPECTED every 3 yrs…someone called that highly controled????????? I think not!!!

Hi I’m from VT I feed strictly Eukanuba I’ve had 5 dogs sick one dead one terminal. Everyone whom has had a pet involved should feel compassion don’t post antagonistic comments.Who knows what feeds are safe and where this will end.Be confrontational with the dog food companies, alot of the dog food on the market should’nt be ther anymore than cigarrettes should be sold as its just poison. My heart goes out to any who have a pet involved.Respectfully Margery GunDog Kennells

I’m disgusted. The first two comments on this page are ridiculous. I too once fed my dogs Natural Balance by Dick and guess what? They have been sick and the food has been recalled. People need to understand that no matter what you pay in dogfood prices it’s all manufactured from the same companies. They might not tell you that, but it is. Dick Van Patten’s company told me that his dog food was done on a human consumption line….. guess they wish they would have never said that now! Everyone needs to work together and fight against these companies for charging different prices but being manufactured on the same lines. And if they’re food has been contaminated from products in China….don’t we get food products from China? Don’t you think we should be worried about us as well? Duh?

My dry dog food Kasco was just recalled. I have been using it for years, mixed with the premium Evo food. We all haqve to band together here. i checked the list thoroughly before I bought my last bags. After they finished the 40lb bag, the food was recalled. Now I’m freaking out. I’m recalling in my mind various peculiar symptoms the dogs have had over the past month – eating alot of grass, some diarhea, my 3 yr old pit has to stop and rest during walks. Does anyone know if symptoms that are bad food related occur over a period of time, or at once?

I’ve simply decided to make my own dog food. The homemade food really doesn’t cost any more, and my dogs are certainly worth the extra effort.

I WAS feeding my dog venison and potato from the vet but went on line and found that consumers research rec Dick Van Patton Natural Balance dog food so I switched to venison and brown rice dry… venison and brown rice canned ( to mix in)… and Venison and brown rice treats. And “guess what?” ALL WERE RECALLED!!!! I wasn’t feeding my dogs crap! I now make my own dog food at home. I can eat everything I feed my dogs …treats and all!

I would just like to comment on the first two comments made. Not everyone can afford to buy top of the line pet food. Pets shouldn’t have to be able to only go to certain income homes, people that have a lower income make just as good owners as anyone else. You just have to read the bags and sort out the real crap from a ceaper good brand. Think before you speak or write.

This is for all the rich snobs that are putting down the cheaper dogfood. Believe this or not there are people in this world that do care and love ther pets but cannnot afford the expensive brands. My guess is that those people give something much more important to there pets than some rich folks……..there time and unconditional love. Thank you for the info and the wake up call about SOME people.

Today is 9/4/2007 and I have been feeding my dog Iams dry dogfood since about 2004,due to a vet telling me it would regulate her bowels and be easier for her to digest. It worked really wellall these past years. But about 2 weeks ago she started taking a few bites and leaving the rest of her food, which is strange for her. She then started vomiting and having diahrea. This has continued during the past 2 weeks. She’s wobbly when she stands up, won’t eat, and rarely drinks. I associated her sickness with the food and she hasn’t had any of the dog food in about 4 days. She’s not getting any better. To my knowledge the Iams dry dog food in the bag hasn’t been recalled. But I’m convinced it has to be the problem! Has anyone else had a bad experience with it? If not, please help get the word out to beware of the Iams dry food too. Any info or suggestions in response to my post will be appreciated. Thank you.

Our hearts go out to all pets and parents. We have a lab mix who is a miracle for us. Hind sight is 20/20 I’ve heard. Our best friend has been showing all the symtoms you all are mentioning. I’ve always blamed my lack of money to buy her top brand foods for her condition, and there has been more than one time with different foods through out the years. We had to change brands three times in three months because none seemed to give her what she needed Except eating our leftover home cooked meals. She has been very ill. Fever, diaeria, unstable balance especially hind legs. school starting and clothes buying made me have to home treat unless no other option. What is working is alot of time love and tenderness. Pediatric electrolytes added to water to make ice cubes and getting up at least four times a night holding them in my hand while she slurps them, boiled chicken carrots and rice and electrolytes added to moisten, Do Not do anything without calling vets assistance. If you can’t afford vet care and many can’t even though they love thier pets, the local animal shelter will let you know what is safe to do and try as will local vets. Star went for a short walk today, very wobbly
and at times feverous, it will be a while before shes okay. If she does make it, she had a setback day when I bought her a can of “safe” food. I agree, homecooking is the best. Our hearts go out to all of you, I know I’ve been crying.

Hopefully its not to late to add something more about our miracle dog Star. It hasbeen joked about afterwords that she has a cast iron stomach, I’ve had to be one with the vet a few times. But this is different, She turned down dry food completely when she got ill, wouldnt even sneak into the kitty food, when it wasn’t remebered to be put up for a while. She still has an appetite for human food…what does that say. I cook from scratch because my child shows reactions to many fast and factory foods, so much like our dog was. We are all in for one long ride, thankyou for this website.STAR, my child and i are greatful. Symptoms? how about general lack of energy, pale tongue and gums. Not involving fleas before diarea set in right before.

Good luck Dear people. It is now Sept. 11 2007, Please allow us one more help for pets and parents. My child reminded me of the tramma of it all and moved Star’s food and water bowl from the dining room to the kitchen where all our food is prepared. A different location from the badness. For the first time in about a week and a half Star drank water from her bowl on her own without firm persistant from us. We were having to hold her water bowl up and insist firmly until she drank even one or two slurps.(Very slow progress,at times)evencupping water in our hands to intice her. Also my child reminded me of another problem this bad food has or could cause. She has a new pet, a cute hamster. The books say a piece of dog or cat food once and a while helps hone their teeth. Be Care. Good luck dear people and friends. The electolytes given are the nonflavered.
