to Shelly Eddy: DON’T BUY A JEEP!!!! We own a 2007 with 45,000 miles on it. As soon as it was out of warranty, we had to replace BOTH tie rod ends on the front, then BOTH the lower ball joint/control arm assembly. Cost us over $400. both times. What a piece of sh** – NO JEEPS ARE NOT WELL BUILT. I sent an email to Chrysler telling them I would never buy another, and they wrote back basically saying sorry you feel that way. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, HUH? Shelly, run as fast as you can AWAY FROM A JEEP – hopefully you did not buy one.

I have a jeep compass 2008. I was bringing my vehicle in at less then 20,000 to Chrysler because my brakes become stuck in certain conditions. They could not duplicate the problem. Chrysler kept noted loud noise from rear and blamed the noise on my tires stating the tires were bad. Finally I got tired of the loud noise and could not understand how come “all” our tires were bad. Finally I went to fire stone. They did a complete check and found the problem. The tires were not wearing down because of normal wear and tear. Both front lower ball joints were bad and I only have 30.000 miles on my vehicle. Chrysler finally replaced the ball joints but did not replace the bad tires. Plus since we had additional road side assurance with Chrysler they will not honor the insurance as well. They stated because the tires are bad because of the ball joints it’s up to Chrysler to replace the tires. Nice we have insurance but yet the insurance through Chrysler won’t honor the agreement because of the faulty ball joints.

Have a 2007 Compass with 24,000 miles and have terrible vibration noise
when accelerating or starting off. Sounds like the exaust or motior mounts.
Also had to buy new tires already due to uneven wear. Not too pleased

Maria the uneven wear on your tires is good indication that your ball joints are bad. Go to firestone and have them do a complete check on your vehicle. Have firestone note the problem then go back to the chrysler to fix your problem. Since your car has only 24,000 miles they should honor your warranty.

my daughter purchased a 2007 Jeep Compass. From day one she kept saying something didn’t feel right in the front end. She has the car for a little over a year now. We recently brought it to be inspected. The garage informed her that the two front lower ball joints and left tie rod needed to be replaced and it would not pass inspection. Also, the tires were wearing from the inside due to this problem. This seems to be a common problem with this vehicle.

Just got back from getting new front end tires. Both completely wore DUE to bad ball joints! Service tech said this a bad problem with Jeep vehicles to the point Chrysler has tons in stock for replacing. And of course its the only place to get them no one else makes them. So once again am getting screwed over by big cvompany! Called Jeep and they are “looking into” this problem. I said fine I’ll just tell my kids to sue you when I crash! I dont have the money to replace these. 2007 Jeep Patroit..Will never get another Jeep.

My daughter has a 2007 Jeep Compass we purchased at the end of 2009 and I was told today it was not going to pass inspection …that the ball joints were bad and her two front tires were worn so bad he was surprised she didn’t blow the tires out. Its going to cost me over 1,000.00 to fix and I am mad ..I thought Jeep was a good vehicle to own ..guess I was wrong! Next vehicle WILL NOT be Jeep! I know the warranty isn’t going to cover it since we bought it used ..but I guess I should place a call to them already knowing they are going to piss me off more!! DO NOT BUY A JEEP!

I bought my 2007 Jeep Compass last June and it had only 14,000 miles on it. A friend that does all my servicing told me my ball joints had to be replaced. So he did this just 2 months ago. I took my car in to see what the thumping noise was and he said I need new lower ball joints and 4 new tires. This is just crazy. I also bought the additional warranty on my tires and they told it would be covered and that when I put the new tires on, it will now longer be on warranty!!!!

We also had to replace both tie rod ends and ball joints at 35,000 miles. I don’t understand if this is such an issue why it has not been a recall. We also needed to have the transmission replaced. We have had nothing but problem after problems with our jeep.

I own a 2007 Jeep Compass and LOVE it -except for all of the problems I have had.
The vehicle has flooded (through the sunroof – leaking) and I had to have the entire interior carpet completely replaced along with cleaning of vehicle.
The transmission has had problems needing repairs. After the warranty expired, the suspension on the front end needed fixing.
I have under 27,000 mile on car and it now needs new brakes and rotors!
I cannot afford to keep this vehicle at the rate it is needing repairs!
We have 3 Jeep vehicles in my family and I can say this will be my last. I have had nothing but problems with this poor car.
Sadly, the quality of Jeep is not what it was.

My post was back in Feb. 8, 2011 – there are 7 other posts since then for the same ball joint problem, and who knows how many thousands more! This is a major safety issue, and sorry to say, Chrysler sucks and has no intentions of issuing a recall – they couldn’t care less. Some one is going to have to die in an accident before they give a shit. ABSOLUTELY NO MORE JEEPS FOR ME!! Hopefully others will boycott Chrysler too, and they will go under, where they SHOULD have gone before the gov’t. bailed their sorry asses out.

I have a 2007 Jeep Compass and it has always had front end vibration and poor, uneven tire wear even after new brakes and tires. I finally found out I need front ball joints and arm assemblies. Other than that, I’ve had no problems and I have about 107,000 miles on it. It seems that this is a common problem and one that Jeep should be covering at least partially!

I have a 2007 Jeep Compass bought brand new. I have had nothing but problems since day one. Iv’e replaced my tie rod ends, under control arms, brought it in twice after that because my lightening bolt light was on they said it had to do with the computer and they fixed it. Third time they had to replace the whole computer system. These were all within just a few months of eachother…and today it happened again. I JUST REPLACED THE WHOLE COMPUTER SYSTEM LIKE MAYBE 2 MONTHS AGO!!! I am so frustrated and upset. I had talked to a friend who had issues with a car before and they had to file it under the lemon law.. I will be either contacting chrysler personally or I will be hiring an attorney to help me with the lemon law
I AM DONE THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS

Owner of 2007 Jeep Compass, bought new didn’t have problems til last year. Had to have the ABS module replaced (recall). Then I heard whistling sounds on and off under car; puling in wheel, and squeaking noises when going over bumps in the road. I have Extended Warranty (75,000) of which I haven’t really had to use. I took my car into Chrysler for service twice and they said nothing was wrong and heard no noises. Now my warranty almost up and I wonder what’s next then it’s not covered. I need to get everything checked that I have read in the reviews before it’s too late. I’ts a shame you patronize them to give them a job and they can’t return the favor. Thanks everyone for the info…….

Take it to another dealer – but you will most likely hear the same story, nothing’s wrong. until it’s out of warranty. That’s what the service dept. is paid to do. Chrysler sucks, my family will never buy another Mopar – EVER.

Now with 151,000 miles, numerous tie rods, ball joints, several new tires, tune up at the tune of $480, $2200, for transmission cooler, timing belt, all new pulleys, etc., the catylitic converter is plugged to be changed by the dealer only for the low low price of $600.00.
Oh and by the way, while still under warranty, would climb a hill, and the ac would quit working. Take it to the dealer, shut it off, talk to them, it would start working again. I believe that this Jeep Compass 2007 needs an exorcist instead of a mechanic. Also assembled in Mexico. Waiting 7 weeks for timing belt. Will NEVER buy Jeep again!

I brought a 2007 jeep compass in 09/2006. I got this car from a dealership, that was closed down. When I got this jeep brand new off the truck. I placed the first miles, on it. First, when you release the acclerator the car would start slowing down almost to a complete stop. I took it to the dealer they told me this was normal for the new transmission. After about 3 mos the check engine light came. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the gascap was not tight So, they gave me a new cap. So, every 6 mos or so I had the check engine light I turn the car off and tighten the cap. Every year I go to the dealer parts to purchase a new gascap. I’ve done all the maintenance that was required & recommened, Now, I am almost finished paying for it, and the trouble begins. In 2010, I took in for inspection and I failed for rotors, and left ball joints. I replaced the rotors, and I pass inspection. In 2011, I new it was time for brakes so I got the top of the line for the compass on the brakes. And I went in for inspection and they informed me that my left ball joint had play and since I am a valued customer they passed my inspection. So, the check engine light started coming on and I new it could not have been the gas cap. And instead of going to the dealer to be charged another $100’s, I went to AutoZone they do free check engine and give you a primtout of what is wrong. I took it too Jiffy lube they were unable to check my transmission fliud because of the locked & sealed. Now, I took the compass in for a tune-up & transmission to Firestone, beacuse when I sat idle at a light the car would shut off. Guess What I had to take it back 3 times because it kept shuting off & the transmission line was leaking. Now, the check engine light is not on, but when I start her up and start up a hill the compass squeal & holler for about 2 blocks. I took to a mechanic shop, and he just looked at the vehicle stated, MISS, they have a recall on the transmission on this make (compass). All the recalls I never received a letter or notice from Chrysler.

If there was ever a vehicle that should be under serious investigation by NHSTA it’s the compass/caliber platform.

By the time ours was 2 years old and only had 20,000 miles on it both ball joints and tie rod ends were bad. Not just bad but rusted and so loose that it was truly dangerous to drive. Both front tires were ruined.
Chrysler is completely avoiding this because if everybody wised up and went after them it would put them under again.
There will never ever be a Jeep in our driveway ever again, and forget about any trade in value this issue is known by dealers.

Your only hope is to take it to an Independent shop and have the MOOG parts installed and that requires a large press.
Mopar / Jeep Dealers will only install the same parts that failed in the first place.

One other Major safety issue is the sunroof. They leak terrible and today at 50 MPH it blew open on my wife and stood straight up.
Duct tape got her home but after looking it over I found that the actual slides are plastic and when they break there’s nothing to keep the glass from flying out.

Bottom line if you own one sell it.

In my 30 + years of owning cars I’ve never ever had such a bad experience and I Owned a Vega.

to Maggie B: I would insist on a second opinion – DO NOT assume the dealer is honest, they are out to make $$ at your expense (and everyone else’s) If your car is out of warranty, please find a reliable mechanic other than the Crysler dealer, chances are they will be more honest and definitely cheaper.

My 2007 Jeep Compass is a lemon too. At only 8,000 miles, abs sensor went out and brakes locked up. 6 mo later wouldn’t shift out of park, again brake sensor. Less than 50,000 miles, all new brakes, ball joints and tires. What a piece of ****. Have been a loyal Chrysler owner for 30 years. Never again!!!!
