I purchased 4 new American Prospector SUV tires in November 2007. I have only 6,000 miles on them and the mechanics (2) both said the tires are chopping (a phrase I have never heard). The tire store I purchased them at is now out of business (Broad Elm Tire). Can you recommend what I can do from here on. Thank you

    TO C GERACE,

YOU CAN GO ONLINE TO http://WWW.ACCC.COM AND FIND ANOTHER AMERICAN CAR CARE CENTER NEAR YOU. ANY AMERICAN CAR CARE CENTER WILL HONOR YOUR WARRANTY ON THOSE TIRES. HOWEVER, CUPPING IS CAUSED BY A MECHANICAL CONDITION ON THE VEHICLE. EITHER THE TIRE IS NOT SITTING ON THE ROAD EVENLY AND IT IS ALLOWING THE EDGE OF THE TIRE TO “LIFT” OFF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING (SOLVED WITH AN ALIGNMENT) OR THERE ARE WORN SUSPENSION PARTS (SHOCKS/ STRUTS) ON THE VEHICLE THAT ARE ALLOWING THE TIRES TO “HOP” ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. MECHANICAL WEAR ON A TIRE IS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS NOT A TIRE DEFECT BUT AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE CUPPING.

I purchased a set of prospectors 265/70 17 and I am having a problem with the vehicle pulling to the right. I purchased them from tire pros and they have done several allignments but no matter what they do the problem comes back. The owner tells me it’s the tires the problem started after 12,000 miles. Can you give me some info

I have the same tire as Luis..265/70 17…same problem with it pulling to the right. switched tires and it pulls to the left. a month later the belts have separated in that tire and caused the entire truck to shake violently(steering shaft has about a half inch play now due to the shaking of the tire)…i suggest that you expand that recall to include the 17 inch tire as well..i dont know if it was a bad idea, but i have purchased the same set of tires. lets see how these ones go.

I HAVE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR SUV IN A 235/70R/16 WITH 13,000 ON THEM AND I LOVE THEM. NEVER HAD A ISSUSE WITH THESE TIRES AND MY BROTHER PUT A SET OF THE SAME BUT A 265/70/16 ON HIS TRUCK AND HAS HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THESE EITHER. JUST THE WAY PEOPLE DRIVE THERE CARS/TRUCKS/SUVS NOW ADAYS.

as far as the cupping issue could be lack of rotation as far as broken belt issue who’s to say if this tire has ever been subjected to a impact from curbing or road
hazard tires take a beating and i have yet to have a truck driver say he hit something in the road 30+ years in the tire industry
