Summary: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 CHEVROLET EQUINOX AND GMC TERRAIN VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 103, “WINDSHIELD DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING SYSTEMS AND WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 101, CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS”. THE SOFTWARE IN THE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL CAN CAUSE THE HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING, DEFROST, AND RADIO CONTROLS, AS WELL AS THE PANEL ILLUMINATION TO BECOME INOPERATIVE.

Consequence: DRIVING WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING DEFROST SYSTEM CAN DECREASE YOUR VISIBILITY UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE COMPUTER MODULE IN THE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 OR AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

I purchased a 4 cylinder 2010 Equinox when they first came out (I have had mine for 15 months) It has a sound to the engine and it makes a sound like a spark knock! It has been to the dealer many times for this problem. GM knows about this problem I have a case number with them (they think its the fuel injectors that sit on top of the engine) the engineers are working on the problem (for the last 11 months) they tell me they are monitoring the problem (I get free oil changes for a year) I feel like nothing is being done about this problem, they are just pacifying me by giving me free oil changes. I like my equinox BUT this has made me upset about the customer service that GM is giving me. I have always bought GM cars this is my LAST ONE. My next car will be a foreign car NEVER A GM AGAIN. (OH forgot to tell you the dealership will buy it back for what I OWE on the car . Even though to has been rust proofed and scotchguarded. ) I feel that GM has let me down and IF someone asks me about buying a GM product I am very honest and tell them HOW I HAVE BEEN TREATED . Never a GM AGAIN THank You
