SECOND UPDATED RELEASE This is issued for the update and correction of item 08280, Sconza Natural Line Chocolate Peanuts, from the incorrect item 02820 and the addition of item 08290 to be added to 08090 which are both 6 oz bags of Sconza Organic Toffee Cashews and Peanuts with the UPC 41668 08091.

Sconza Candy Company of  Oakdale, CA is taking the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling Alpine Trail Mix, Organic Chocolate Peanuts and Organic Toffee Cashews and Peanuts that were distributed from January 1, 2007 to February 10, 2009.  These products contain peanuts obtained from the Plainview, Texas plant of Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

These peanuts have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritic.

All the aforementioned products are distributed nationally and many may be in the vending trade. The Organic Chocolate Peanuts and Organic Toffee Cashews and Peanuts are made both in packaged and bulk forms.
