My Kenmore Smooth Top Range Model No. 790.46713602 is also failing to turn off, but is not on the recall list. The only way to get it to turn off is by shutting off power from the circuit breaker.
My Kenmore Smooth Top Range, Model 790.96002601 is also failing to turn off!! We too, are having to use the circuit breaker to turn our heating element off. I have contacted Sears and Kenmore, and will file a complaint with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Purchased a Frigidaire smoothtop in May 2010 from Lowes. Yesterday July 25, 2010, my home is now burned to a crisp. Element turned on by itself at 5:30 am while sleeping. Insurance is paying for repairs to home, but I want to know who to pull into court for damages from stress, inconvience, etc. Just put my children and grandaughter out of their home. somebody’s got to pay for this. Any ideas.
I also have a Kenmore smoothtop electric range bought June 2007 model # 790.96112408 and the left burner heats to high when you turn it on no matter what temperature you set it at and then won’t shut off. Mine isn’t on the recall list either and am going to call Sears and Kenmore and find out what they’re going to do about it.
My Kenmore Elite model 790.46619501 and NOT ON RECALL LIST is nonfixable by experienced repair service. Left front burner fails to respond to digital control, sometimes does not turn off or does and then reheats by itself. Currently disconnected and unusable. Why is it not listed with recall models?
I have a Kenmore Smooth top range Model 790 46803 991, serial# NFQ1008540. Both large elements when turned on burn at high setting which makes them useless, not mention a fire hazard. I called sears service and was told I would be better off buying a new one than fixing the old because they are so unreliable. I intend to turn this matter over to the consumer affairs division of state government to see if they can get all the folks who own one of these some relief. I have purchased my last product from Sears.

We recently had a fire incident with our Sears Kenmore Model # 790.45062400, manufactured on January 2004. Like you said, our left front burner failed to respond to the digital control and often did not turn off. Then one day we were cooking and suddenly we heard a loud mechanical pop sound that suddenly ignited a HUGE fire! Really scary stuff. Horribly product should be recalled immediately! I have filed a consumer hazard complaint with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
This fire spread so fast that within 30 seconds, the cupboards were burning, the tiling was on fire, and walls were covered in suit. This company should be sued, they build dangerous and ridiculously defective products.
I have Kenmore smooth top range Model # 790-94343700. Purchased in 2008.
Had a problem with shutting of front burner not shutting off. Yesteday oven gave me an F10 code and shut off. I think this stove should last longer than 3 years without having any problems.
790.95373803 Kenmore have the same problem the burner not shutting off only by circuit breaker to turn off, is not in the list.
I have the Kenmore smooth top 790.99123405. First the burner would turn itself on. We fixed that. Now today it caught fire. The electrical inside the back for the oven burst into flames while it was preheating. My tile behind the stove is burned. Thankfully I was here or I wouldn’t have my home.
I have a Kenmore Model 790.96002601 and am going to mimic so many previous people. Our stove won’t turn off. We unplugged it for a day, plugged it back in, and it’s still on. It appears to be stuck in a “low” setting, then it switched to a “high” setting and was blaring red. We will not use this stove and am now looking for a new one. This is a huge safety issue. Where’s the recall to notify all the folks that haven’t had the malfunction and prevent unnecessary injuries and fires?
I have a kenmore smoothtop range mod#790.96011407 two front burners won’t turn off – but more importantly stay on at high – very dangerous – when i called sears all they wanted was the $129 to come out and repair – when i told them i had researched this problem with their defective stoves on line – customer service told me we could argue this all day but it was still going to cost me $129-
I have a Kenmore smooth top stove and the oven burned in half time it was to have baked a cake, anything in it and it would not open up or be turned off. It had an
7 ERR message and I had to click the fuse box to turn it of both times.. I won’t chance it again as I am afraid it would start a fire, food was burnt to crisp.
I purchased a Fridgidare Proofessional Series Smooth top stove from Sears approximately3.5 yrs ago. Last night I experienced the THIRD fire which was a result of a burner being turned on…….although I was not cooking anything during any event. The controls are on the front of the stove and each time were found to be “on”. The Microwave above thw stove was charred as were cabinets. Had I not been home when these incidents happened I dare to think of the consequences. With each occurence the fire alarms alerted me. I did not turn on the units, but I had walked past the stove prior to the incidents. It was not the same unit each time. The units are supposed to “click” when turned off , But i have noticed that at times the click does not occur. Plz contact me if there is more I should do or know.
Forgot to add the model # for the above stove…..Fridgedare PLES 38 9 ECH NF 81619583
My Kenmore Smooth Top range Model 665.95002102 had the oven fail to turn off last night, 11/19/12. When I checked dinner which should have been done in one hour, it was burned to a crisp and oven was VERY HOT and oven element was red (much hotter than 350 it was set at). When I switched oven to off, it failed to turn off and element remained on (red). My husband turned it off by switching circuit breaker. I reported it this morning to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and they will research. I also reported it to Sears recall hotline, but they had not recall and could only send a repair tech for $200. Not much help, one would think they would be concerned about safety issues particularly with all the comments listed here – there is obviously a BIG ISSUE with these products. With only 2 days before Thanksgiving, guess we will purchase a new range……
My mom has same stove model 790.99123405 same prob burner turned on by itself and won’t shut off . Should be included in recall.
