HAZARD: THE HOME GYM’S HORIZONTAL SEAT RAIL IS DESIGNED TO BE LATCHED IN A VERTICAL POSITION FOR STORAGE. IF THE SEAT RAIL IS NOT MANUALLY LATCHED, IT CAN FALL UNEXPECTEDLY ON THE USER OR A BYSTANDER, POSING A RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY.
INCIDENTS/INJURIES: NAUTILUS HAS RECEIVED 18 REPORTS OF INJURIES CAUSED BY UNLATCHED SEAT RAILS THAT HAVE FALLEN, RESULTING IN HEAD AND SHOULDER LACERATIONS, SOME REQUIRING STITCHES OR STAPLES.
DESCRIPTION: THIS RECALL INVOLVES THE BOWFLEX® ULTIMATE 2 HOME GYMS. THE HOME GYMS ARE EQUIPPED WITH PULLEYS, RESISTANCE RODS, AND OTHER EQUIPMENT, WHICH ALLOW THE USER TO PERFORM A VARIETY OF EXERCISES. “BOWFLEX ULTIMATE 2” IS WRITTEN ON THE VERTICAL PART OF THE FRAME.

Wednesday nite (9/7/2010) my daughter and I decided to work out, and as I had taken the base down to the floor the chair rail came crashing down on my head. I have 4 stitches in the crown of my head and have severe headaches still. After hearing that there had been recalls on the bowflex I decided to search it on the internet and found this article. I asked my husband if he had ever received any recall notices and he replied no. I don’t think consumers should have to experience this sort of injury or have to call the company in order to get the part to fix it. They should have sent the parts out to all their customers with a detailed letter of what would happen if not fixed. Now I have lost a day of work and wish I could afford to stay home a little longer because I feel fuzzy, have severe headaches and not able to concentrate for any length of time.
