Sitagliptin – Januvia and Janumet – Type Two Diabetes Drugs and Acute Pancreatitis

The FDA is revising the prescribing information for Januvia (sitagliptin) and Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) to include information on reported cases of acute pancreatitis in patients using these medications for type two diabetes.
Eighty-eight post-marketing cases of acute pancreatitis were reported to the Agency between October 2006 and February 2009. These include two cases of hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis in patients using sitagliptin.

Tylenol has recalled certain lots of of liquid medicine for infant and children because they may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia) bacteria.
The children’s Tylenol recall affects certain batches of Children’s Tylenol Suspension; Children’s Tylenol Plus Cold / Allergy and Infant Tylenol Drops; Infant Tylenol Suspension; Children’s Tylenol Plus Cough and Runny Nose; and several other children and infant Tylenol products of various flavors and sizes.
