Kimball and Company, Inc. of Amesbury, MA is voluntarily recalling all approximately 1200 units of Clam Chowder and Corn Chowder, all lot numbers in 15 oz cans, because they contain undeclared Milk and Wheat. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Milk or Wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The Clam and Corn Chowders are packaged under the brand labels: Harrington’s, House of Stevens, Old Sturbridge Village, Mystic Seaport, Nantucket Museum Shop, Idylwilde Farms, Nantucket Maid: The Four Winds, Bolton Orchards, or Nantucket Gourmet.
The Clam Chowder and Corn Chowder was distributed in all of New England (CT, MA, NH, VT, ME, RI) and New York. These items were sold to small retail stores.
If you are unsure if the product you have purchased is one of these companies, you can look for the code numbers, which are: PLG2958B, PLC2968B. No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that products containing Milk and Wheat were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Milk and Wheat.
Those who have purchased the Clam and Corn Chowder who ARE allergic to Milk or Wheat are urged to return the product where they bought it for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-978-388-1826.
Consumers who have purchased this Clam or Corn Chowder who are NOT allergic to Milk or Wheat need not do anything. There is nothing to be concerned about in the product itself, it is completely safe. Again we stress that the product is completely safe to be consumed, unless you have an allergy to Milk or Wheat.
