The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a health warning on Bolthouse Farms Carrot Juice. Health officials have linked the carrot juice to at least four botulism cases.
Botulism symptoms can include fatigue, problems speaking and breathing, and can lead to death in children, the elderly and those in poor health. Your are advised to return the carrot juice to the store from which you purchased it.
Consumers should always refrigerate carrot juice, including pasteurized carrot juice, says the FDA. One link between the illness and the consumers affected appears to be that the carrot juice they drank was not refrigerated, the FDA said.
The product from identified by the FDA is Bolthouse Farms Carrot Juice, 450 ml and 1-liter plastic bottles, with “best if used by” dates of Nov. 11, 2006, or earlier.
The FDA has advised those experiencing paralysis, double vision, droopy eyelids, altered voice and trouble with speaking or swallowing after drinking carrot juice should seek medical attention immediately.
