American Food Service, a Pico Rivera, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 3,170 pounds of fresh ground beef patties and other bulk packages of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Nina Mia, Inc. Recalls Frozen Veal Ravioli Products Due To Mislabeling and an Undeclared Allergen

Nina Mia, Inc., a Fullerton, Calif., establishment is recalling approximately 654 pounds of frozen veal ravioli products because they contain an undeclared allergen, soy, which is not declared on the label. Soy is a known allergen.

The products subject to recall include:
6-lb. cases of “PASTA MIA VEAL RAVIOLI GASTRONOMICA.”
Each case is labeled “PASTA MIA VEAL RAVIOLI LRG RND GASTRONOMICA” and indicates the manufacturer item number V16LR01. Each case contains 2 individual 3-lb. packages. The individual packages bear the establishment number “20314″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Colorado Meat Packers Recalls Ground Beef Products Due To Mislabeling and Possible Adulteration

Colorado Meat Packers, a Denver, Colo., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,234 pounds of beef trim that was improperly labeled and potentially adulterated, the USDA announced. The product label includes “For Cooking Only,” indicating that it is intended for further processing to apply a full lethality at a federally inspected establishment. Because the product was sent to a federal establishment that does not conduct lethality operations, the product must be removed from commerce.

The following product is subject to recall:
2,234 lbs. Combo Bin of All Beef Trimmings
The bin bears the establishment number “EST. 17086″ inside the USDA mark of inspection, can be identified by the case code “9002 N.” The ground beef trim was produced on December 2, 2010 and sent to a federal establishment in Colorado for further processing without testing. All testing conducted on other trim produced on the same day from the same source materials was negative for E. coli O157:H7.

One Great Burger Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible Adulteration

One Great Burger, of Elizabeth, NJ, is expanding its Jan. 10, 2011 recall to include an undetermined amount of additional ground beef products that may have become spoiled.

The products subject to this recall are adulterated because the establishment’s food safety plan was inadequate to produce safe product. In a continued investigation of the Jan. 10, 2011 recall, FSIS became aware of additional consumer complaints of discoloration and off-odors in the products. FSIS has determined that this ground beef is also adulterated and should not be consumed. There have been no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a physician.

Homestead Pasta Company Recalls Tamale Products

Each product bears the establishment number “EST. 18995A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products subject to recall were produced between Jan. 2010 and Dec. 29, 2010. These products were distributed to retail establishments nationwide.

The products’ labels include “For Cooking Only,” indicating that they are intended for further processing to apply a full lethality at a federally inspected establishment. Because the products were distributed to non-federally inspected establishments where it cannot be verified that sufficient further processing occurred to remove foodborne pathogens that could have been present, these products must be removed from commerce.

FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Various Meat and Poultry Products Produced without Inspection

WASHINGTON, October 30, 2010 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for an undetermined amount of various meat and poultry products produced without the benefit of Federal inspection by N.Y. Gourmet Salads Inc., a Brooklyn, N.Y. establishment.

This public health alert is initiated based on evidence collected during an ongoing investigation being conducted by FSIS on this establishment. The evidence showed that the establishment has been producing products without federal inspection and distributing them into commerce. Federal inspection services at N.Y. Gourmet Salads Inc. were suspended in November 2009. It should be noted that the establishment previously conducted a recall of products produced without the benefit of Federal inspection on March 11, 2010. FSIS will continue to provide information as it becomes available, including information about any related recall activity.

Products subject to this alert include, but are not limited to, the following: [Retail List] (PDF Only) 5-pound tubs of “Chicken Salad” (This product was observed in commerce bearing the N.Y. Gourmet Salads Inc. label.) 5-pound trays of “Meatballs & Sauce” 5-pound trays of “Meatballs” 5-pound trays of “Swedish Meatballs” 5-pound trays of “Sausage & Pepper”
The implicated products were produced between March 11, 2010, and October 29, 2010, and were distributed to retail establishments in New York. Labeling information on the above products is currently unknown, unless otherwise noted above. The products subject to this public health alert may or may not bear the N.Y. Gourmet Salads Inc. label with the establishment number “P-34440″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.
