Taylor Farms Pacific, a Tracy, Calif., establishment, has recalled approximately 64,000 pounds of chicken and pork products because the broccoli used in these products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Boss Pet Recalls Pig Ear Due to Salmonella Risk

Boss Pet Products, Inc. announced that it is recalling its Diggers Natural Treat Pig Ear pet treats because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Boss Pet has been notified by one of its suppliers, Keys Manufacturing Company, Inc., that a batch of Keys’ pig ear treats tested positive for Salmonella. Keys Manufacturing has initiated a voluntary product recall in cooperation with the FDA and has identified several shipments of potentially affected products which Boss Pet shipped out under its Diggers brand in November, 2010 through April, 2011. So far, there has been a report of one dog in Missouri having Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Doctor’s CarbRite Diet of New Brunswick, NJ is recalling certain flavors of 2 oz. Doctor’s CarbRite Diet Bars and 3 oz. Universal Hi Protein bars due to potentially undeclared peanuts. The recalled diet bars may be, “Made on equipment that also processes soy, milk, egg, peanuts and tree nuts” or “…contain traces of nuts.” The product is being recalled because the allergy alert statement is not found at the end or of the Ingredients list or immediately prior to the Ingredients list. Anyone with an allergy to peanuts is recommended not to consume these products.

Goodness Gardens, Inc. of New Hampton, NY has recalled Chives Lot # 0201111, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Northeast Produce Inc. of Plainville, CT has been notified by grower Six L’s that a specific lot of grape tomatoes supplied to Northeast Produce Inc., may be contaminated with Salmonella. This product has been recalled by Six L’s. Northeast Produce Inc. is a customer of Six L’s and our recall is associated with the recall from Six L’s. NO ILLNESS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO DATE. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases the organism can get into the bloodstream and cause more serious complications.
