Chicago Firm Recalls Raw and Ready-To-Eat Sausage Products Due To Possible Adulteration

Chicago Boxed Beef Distributors Inc., a Shorewood, Ill., establishment is recalling approximately 3,200 pounds of raw and ready-to-eat sausage products that were not handled in a manner to prevent cross contamination between raw and ready-to-eat products. In addition, the product label used by the company was not approved by FSIS. The products are considered adulterated because the company could not document that it took the necessary steps to produce safe products and ensure that they were produced under sanitary conditions, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following product is subject to recall: [View Label] 3.6-pound boxes of “SAUSAGE LINKS & COOKED SAUSAGE PATTIES,” with each box containing 2 unlabeled packages.
Each box bears a label with establishment number “EST. 17126″ inside the USDA mark of inspection and can be identified by the item code “9004.” The establishment is recalling all the products listed above which are currently in commerce. The products subject to recall were sold to a distributor for door-to-door sale in Fla., Ill., Ky., S.C., and Texas.

AdvancePierre Foods, Inc., an Orange City, Iowa, establishment, is recalling approximately 10,668 pounds of beef patty products that may contain foreign materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

12-lb packages containing 8 24-ounce bags of H-E-B FULLY COOKED LEAN BURGERS with the H-E-B item code 100538 and EST. 2568 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were produced on June 7, 2011 and distributed to H-E-B stores in San Antonio, Texas.

Cargill Recalls Ground Turkey Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

GHSW, LLC of Houston, Texas is recalling fresh cut fruit products containing papaya because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The products listed in this recall were distributed to retail establishments and distribution centers in Texas.

Georgia Firm Recalls More Ready-To-Eat Products for Possible Listeria Contamination

Flying Food Group, LLC, a Lawrenceville, Ga., establishment, is expanding its recall of ready-to-eat chicken, turkey, beef and pork products by an additional 6,901 pounds, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The initial recall was issued July 19.

Agromod Produce, Inc. Recalls Papaya Because Of Possible Health Risk

Agromod Produce, Inc. of McAllen, TX is recalling all Papayas, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Fresh, Whole Papayas were distributed nationwide and to Canada through retail stores and wholesalers. Agromod is recalling all Blondie, Yaya, Mañanita, and Tastylicious Brand papayas sold prior to July 23, 2011. Each Blondie Brand papaya can be identified by a blue and orange sticker label with green and white lettering on the fruit that states Blondie 4395 Mexico. The Yaya Brand Papayas can be identified by a yellow, red, orange, and green label with white, green and red lettering that reads Yaya Premium Papayas Yaya PLU-4395 Mexico. Each Mañanita Brand Papaya can be identified by a green, yellow and red sticker label that states Mexico Mañanita 4395. The Tastylicious Brand Papayas can be identified by a white and blue sticker with red and white lettering that states 4395 Tastylicious MEXICO. The papayas were imported from Mexico and are possibly linked to 97 reported cases of Salmonella Agona, including 10 hospitalizations, in 23 states throughout the United States.  Recent sampling by the FDA found the outbreak strain in two papaya samples collected at Agromod Produce, Inc. location in McAllen, TX and at the U.S. border destined for Agromod Produce, Inc. The shipments that tested positive with the outbreak strain were not distributed in the U.S. Distribution of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem. This recall is being made with the knowledge of the US Food and Drug Administration.

New York Importer Recalls Bacon Products for Possible Listeria Contamination

Jetro Cash and Carry Enterprises LLC/R.D. Food Services LP, an importer from New York, is recalling approximately 2,900 pounds of diced bacon products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Through routine testing on July 19, 2011, FSIS found a sample of cooked diced bacon imported from Canadian EST No. 169A, Aliments Prince, S.E.C. to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes . The initial product represented by that sample is on hold, but the Canadian Food Inspection Agency notified FSIS that additional product represented by the positive sample had been shipped to the United States. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.

California Firm Recalls Beef Products Produced without Inspection

Bobby Salazar’s Mexican Foods, of Fowler, CA has recalled about 2,560 pounds of chopped beef products produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

The following product is subject to recall [View Label]: 16-lb. cases containing 4-lb. bags of “CARNE ASADA CHOPPED BEEF &
TEXTURED WHEAT PROTEIN IN RED HOT SAUCE”
Each bag bears the establishment number “21269” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on April 19, 2011 and May 11, 2011, and shipped to a distributor and restaurants in California for further distribution.

Ohio Firm Recalls Various Beef Jerky Products due to Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens

Yant Beef Jerky, a Jackson Center, OH has recalled about 6,200 pounds of beef jerky because of misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products contain a known allergen, fish in the form of an anchovy puree in Worcestershire sauce, that is not declared on the label.

Euphoria Fancy Food Inc. Issues An Alert On Uneviscerated Fish

Euphoria Fancy Food Inc. of Brooklyn NY has recalled Herring Special Salting discovered not to have been property eviscerated during routine inspections by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors.
This product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause Botulism, a serious and potentially fatal food-borne illness.
The sale of this type of fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.  Uneviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning. Symptoms of botulism include blurred or double vision, general weakness, poor reflexes, difficulty in swallowing and respiratory paralysis.The recalled Herring Special Salting comes in an uncoded, 48.58oz (1300gr) plastic container and is a product of Russia.  Herring Special Salting was sold in New York State.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.  Consumers who have Herring Special Salting are advised not to eat it, but should return it to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-768-3400.

Tri City Cheese and Meats, Inc., a Kawkawlin, MI has recalled about 87 pounds of Teriyaki Flavor kippered turkey and beef products because they contain wheat and soy, which are not noted on the label. Wheat and soy are both known allergens.

The products subject to recall include: [View Labels] 5-oz. and 1 lb. packages of “Troll Smokehouse, Kippered Turkey, Teriyaki Flavor” 5-oz. and 1 lb. packages of “Troll Smokehouse, Kippered Beef, Teriyaki Flavor”
