Glucose Test Strips with a Deadly Defect

The FDA has issued a new warning regarding GDH-PQQ test strips, used in some glucose meters, giving inaccurate glucose readings. This is not the first warning the FDA has issued about these strips, but healthcare facilities have continued using them resulting in more deaths.

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) is warning diabetic patients about potentially fatal glucose monitoring errors in patients receiving products that contain other sugars. These include parenterals that contain maltose or galactose, oral xylose, and peritoneal dialysis solutions that contain icodextrin.
Contour TS Diabetes Test Strips Recalled by Bayer

Bayer Diabetes Care has recalled their test strips (blood-sugar sensors) used with the Contour TS Blood Glucose Meter due to a manufacturing issue that could result in glucose reading errors.
The Contour TS Meter itself has not being recalled, nor have any test strips that are used in other blood glucose meters sold by Bayer. Patients and medical professionals are advised to check the lot number on the bottles of Contour TS blood glucose test strips.
Warning on Counterfeit One Touch Blood Glucose Test Strips

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting the public to the problems with using counterfeit One Touch Basic/Profile and One Touch Ultra Blood Glucose Test Strips. These products are used by people with diabetes to measure their blood glucose.
