WASHINGTON, D.C. – SUMMER IS HERE AND THAT MEANS OFF-ROAD RIDING IS IN HIGH SEASON IN MANY COMMUNITIES. AS SIDE-BY-SIDE RECREATIONAL OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES (ROVS) CONTINUE TO GAIN IN POPULARITY, SO DOES THE NUMBER OF REPORTS TO THE U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION OF INJURIES AND DEATHS INVOLVING THESE VEHICLES. EVEN THOUGH ROVS HAVE A ROLL CAGE AND SEAT BELTS, CPSC URGES ALL RIDERS AND PASSENGERS TO REMAIN VIGILANT ABOUT SAFETY BEFORE HITTING THE TRAILS AND WHILE OFF-ROADING.
Bush Hog Recalls Off-Road Utility Vehicles: Frozen Throttle Cables

Bush Hog has announced a recall of their Off-Road Utility Vehicles, the TH4400 Trail Hand and the 4430 4X4 after reports of frozen throttle cables, which can cause the engine not to return to idle speed when a driver takes their foot off of the gas pedal. This could cause the driver to lose control of the Bush Hog utility vehicle.

Yamaha Rhino ATV Rollover Problems Persist

Since it was introduced in 2003, the Yamaha Rhino ATV has been associated with a number of rollovers and accidents where riders suffered debilitating fractures when their arms and legs were trapped under the weight of the vehicle. Although aftermarket doors and additional passenger side hand-holds were offered free of charge last summer, Yamaha still has not issued a Rhino recall to add the safety features, and no substantial design changes have been made to address the instability issues.

ATV Recall Bonanza – Recalled Honda 4-Wheelers

They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. This is the fourth ATV recall we have posted about this month, each from different manufacturers.
This time Honda has recalled about 24,000 of their TRX 400EX Four-Wheelers because of a transmission problem that could allow the rider to downshift from 1st gear into reverse without using the reverse lockout lever.

Yamaha Recalls Nearly 70,000 05 & 06 Four-Wheelrs – ATVs

Yamaha, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled about 70,000 2005 and 2006 model four-wheelers / ATVs because of a problem with the tie-rod ends. This defect may may cause steering problems.
