CPSC Alert: Consumers Urged To Stop Using phil&teds USA Clip-on Chairs

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns consumers that some “metoo” clip-on table top chairs, imported by phil&teds USA Inc., of Fort Collins, Colo. put young children at risk of serious injury due to multiple safety hazards. CPSC is urging consumers to stop using some metoo clip-on chairs immediately.

The product is an infant/toddler chair with a nylon fabric seat and a metal frame that clamps onto tables using two metal vise clamps. The upper part of each clamp rests on the table top and has either a rubber clamp pad on its underside or a rubber boot covering it. The chair is sold in three fabric colors – red, black and navy.

Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc. of Tracy, CA has been notified by grower Six L’s that a specific lot of grape tomatoes supplied to Taylor Farms Pacific may be contaminated with Salmonella. This product has been recalled by Six L’s.

Recall Alert: 445,000 Bunk Beds Sold at Walmart, Kmart, Target and Other Stores

About 445,000 wooden bunk beds sold nationwide at stores like Walmart, Kmart, and Target have been recalled due to wooden side-rails that can split and cause the bunk bed to collapse.

Click to see a larger version of bunk bed label.The beds were distributed by Dorel Asia SRL, of Barbados and were made in Vietnam. There have been at least 23 reports of the side rails cracking or breaking, including seven reports of minor bruises or abrasions.

Ryobi Sheet Sanders Recalled by One World Technologies Due to Laceration Hazard

One World Technologies, Inc., of Anderson, S.C. recalls Ryobi ¼ Sheet Sanders due to potential laceration hazard.  Approximately 300,000 sanders were recalled after it was discovered that pieces of the fan can break off from the fan assembly and be ejected from the product.  The company has received at least 31 reports of broken fan pieces being ejected from the sander, including two reports of minor lacerations.

Mastronardi Produce of Kingsville, Ontario is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of grape tomatoes.  The products are associated with a recall by Six L’s Packing Company of Immokalee, Florida on April 29, 2011 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  There have been no illnesses reported to date.

BPA Safety Still Debated, Despite Strong Evidence of Dangers

Bisphenol A, commonly known as BPA, is an industrial chemical used in manufacturing hard plastic bottles and metal-based food and beverage cans since the 1960s. The chemical is a synthetic estrogen typically used to harden polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resin. It is used in paints, coatings, and many items other than food storage containers. The Environmental Working Group estimates six billion pounds of BPA are manufactured annually, selling for about $6 billion.

GMA Accessories Inc., of New York, N.Y.  recalls Beaded Curtains as a result of the risk of strangulation.  The product was distributed by Tween Brands Inc. of New Albany, OH.  The curtains made of beaded string are prone to entanglement and strangulation.   At least two reports of entanglement have been reported.  There are no known injuries.  Approximately 36,000 beaded-curtains are affected by the recall.
