CPSC Alert: Counterfeit Smoke Alarms Distributed in Atlanta

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers in the Atlanta area to check their homes for counterfeit smoke alarms. About 18,500 counterfeit photoelectric smoke alarms were distributed for free in the Atlanta area between 2006 through May 2011 as part of the Atlanta Smoke Alarm Program. The smoke alarms can fail to alert consumers in the event of a fire.
CPSC Warns Memorial Day Weekend Among the Deadliest Holidays for ATV Riders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders to take steps to stay safe this holiday weekend. CPSC staff is aware of 28 fatalities that occurred during the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend in 2010. That is an average of seven deaths a day. Five victims were under the age of 16.

FDA lab analyses of this dietary supplement was found to contain undeclared Sibutramine. The FDA has not approved Sibutramine; therefore the safety and effectiveness of this product is unknown.

This creates a space between the drop side and the crib mattress, in which an infant or toddler’s body could become trapped, leading to suffocation.
