March 24, 2011

Recalled Lasko FanAfter several reports of fires resulting in extensive property damage, about 4.8 million Lasko and Galaxy box fans are being recalled. You can find the model numbers affected below.

The recalled fans were made by Lasko Products Inc., of West Chester, PA. An electrical problem in the fan’s motor is responsible for the fires, which has caused property damage in at least seven reports, including two house fires and a barn fire. No injuries have been reported so far.

The model number is either stamped or printed on the bottom of the fans. More images are provided below.

These fans were sold at stores across the country between 2002 and 2005 for prices ranging from $12 to $25.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fans and contact Lasko to receive a free fused plug safety adapter.

They new there was a problem years ago they put a blue plug on the end and sold them anyway. the only resone they issued the recall is because they got caught.

I have three of these fans in my home. I have always purchased Lasco products.
Will you send coupons for new fans?

@ Luigi – The recall hotline recording says that if your fan has a blue plug, the fan is NOT recalled.

I had a Lasko fan installed in my workshop…It was angled dowm to give better circulation…I returned to my shop one afternoon and could smell something, I put it down as someone welding in the shop. After checking the shop for fire etc., I left the shop to take an employee home..When I returned 30 mins later the shop was full of smoke and the fan had dropped into a stack of wooden TV trays…

They were burning as were several other things in the shop…Had I not returned when I did I would have had a 40 x 60 pile of uninsured ashes…I can’t understand how you could sell this product knowing full well what type of motor was used and the fact they do not readily trip the circuit breaker
