Ford Windstar Mini-Van Recall Update: Rear Axle Failure
December 23, 2010
We first published this recall alert in September, but there is a renewed interest in the Ford Windstar Mini-Van recall due to recent news reports indicating that consumers and consumer safety groups feel Ford should have notified owners sooner.
The initial Ford recall announcement involved about 462,000 older-model Windstars that were being recalled due to concerns that rear axles could corrode and break. Ford is now adding about 37,000 more minivans to the initial recall. The addition brings the total number of recalled Windstar minivans in the U.S. and Canada to around 500,000 or more.
The original recall included Windstar years 1998 to 2003 sold in states where heavy road salt can cause the axles to rust and break. This recent recall expansion includes 2003 Windstar vans with heat-treated axles.
US Recall News will publish the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Ford reports on this recall expansion as soon as they are made available to us. In the meantime, you can also read about this on the first recall alert, or by contacting Ford (1-866-436-7332) or the NHTSA (1-888-327-4236).

Any recalls on 2003 windstar
Dwalia, take it to your local Ford dealer to have it inspected.
Katie, this recall is involving the 2003 Windstar, please get yours inspected!
Anyone know how I can get Ford to purchase my windstar back, I dont want it repaired after seeing what happens when the axel breaks, I will never trust it!
Mine is parked at the dealer, cracked, awaiting repairs.
Mine is also at the dealer and I have been driving a loaner for 2 months. I would also like to have mine purchased for a reasonable price because I have lost confidence in the vehicle. It is a 1999 but will have little to no resale value. Ford give me 4k and we can call it a day!
2000 Ford Windstar sits idle at the local Ford dealer with 16 others…i have a broken rear axle still havent heard when parts are due in. The dealer rep stated that mid January at the earliest and its possible that for d will want to do a buy back.. no way to the buy back unless its alot of cash as i put in countless hours and money getting it to run right after the codes 171 and 174 showed up and the usual 80,000 mile transmission ill keep my van and bury it in to the ground.
Mine is sitting at the dealer going on month 3, they have 61 cars sitting there!
my 2000 windstar is sitting on the lot with over 150 others and i was told it could sit there into march
I have a ford windstar 2001. Saw the news report on that poor mans death before I received any notification from Ford. No dealers remotely near me can take my van because their lots are already full. Called Ford and they suggested dealerships which are very far from me. I am the mother of 4 small children and I am being asked to risk my life to fix their mistake??! Then was left a message from the Ford Windstar team, called back to a disconnected number. I have a undriveable vehicle sitting in front of my house and still no answer. Still waiting for any answer. I’m sure that I am not the only one being over looked unfortunately.
well my ford windstar 2001 rear alxe broke on me and my four children and plus my sister four children coming from picking them up from school the the alxe broke in half the van could not stop it round over three time before it came to a stop. the van was total out so how can ford fix something thats not here anymore i cant fine any lawyer to take my case any one know what i should do about this.
I am with everyone who wants a buy back!!! I don’t trust that Ford will repair it correctly and I have a toddler and an infant to drive around. I would like them to pay me cleen retail for my ’99 Windstar (about $4,300). I took it to the shop in the beginning of October and still no news. I have at 2 different rentals and now Enterprise calls and tells me that they need my car back ASAP!! They wanted me to bring it immediately!! I’m sorry, but I can’t just jump when they want me too!!! I am so tired of having to constantly change vehicles every month, but I don’t know what kind of vehicle I will be able to get with 4 grand. I can gaurantee it won’t be another ford!! The online ads don’t look very promising in that price range!!! It is so frustrating!! Sorry, had to vent a little there.

Our van was recalled in October. While having the loaner vehicle is a plus, I can’t help but wonder about my van sitting idle in an open lot during the winter months while awaiting a decision from Ford. What happens to the tires, the battery, and the engine while we all wait? Will critters make their home under the hood to escape the cold and snow? Probably. Do I have confidence in the vehicle? No. Can I afford a car payment right now? No. Thank you Ford engineers for such a horrible design. We, as consumers, will pay twice for this mistake.
I just dropped mine off on 1/17 for the inspection. Axle is cracked in two places. Dealer told me that it would be a minimum of 1-2 months before parts “might” get received. Rental company said they have clients that have been in a rental for over 90 days because of this recall. Then they tried to put me in a Ford Focus – I said there is no way I can get my family (4 children) in a Ford Focus and that they need to do better than that. I mentioned that I don’t drive a mini-van because I want to. I have reasons for needing that additional seating.
I do think it scary to learn that they waited to recall until there were acidents and deaths involved. There is no way that they should have waited to recall when there are over 575,000 vans with the EXACT same problem.
We have (or had) a 2001 Windstar and too it in for the recall in November. We have been in a rental since then when they told us it was unsafe to drive. Meanwhile it sits in the cold and snow when it could have been in our garage. I too am getting very concerned about the potential repairs whenever or if ever they happen. The resale value is dropping while in storage and with the recall who would want one. I heard they are only offering repurchases on up to 2000. I’m hoping and praying for solutions. Has anyone heard anything more from Ford? Can an attorney help or NHTSA ?
My minivan has been at the Ford dealer since November 1st . Ford has been starting them and moving them . It wont hurt the van to sit for a while and the rental van enterprise has supplied us is great! We will put the miles on it -while ford decides what to do.
Brought 2002 Windstar to dealer in Jan 2011 and was told it had crack in axle. Not good when shuttling 4 little girls to school each day. They said I could have a rental for as long as it takes to fix. Not too keen on using rental for that long. Dealer was hopeful that parts would be in by end of Feb 2011. This was said with a smile and no assurance. Dealer has many more vans waiting to be fixed and can’t promise anything. Overall I was happy with van but can’t afford similiar risk in future. Wish Ford would offer ‘buy back’ so I could buy newer model of van. (maybe Ford). Also, why sooooooooo long for parts? 500,000 vans needing fix should get some priority. Just another example of where customer focus is going in USA although I believe Ford to be a well run company. Good Luck to all.
Sept 4, 2010, My 2001 with 95,000 miles, axle broke in 2 on I-80 with my children in van on my way home from a funeral on a holiday weekend when everything was closed. Highway patrol had it towed to nearest junk yard, while we waited hours at the nearest truck stop for a ride home which we were over 100 miles from home. After 8 hours from axle breaking, we get home 1 am and i get on internet and find it is under recall. Wish i knew this before i took off over 800 miles away from home. Ford neglected to get recall notices out immediately for this potentially dangerous situation. Vehicles behind us could have been injured, not to mention us. Some how I was able to get the van across 3 lanes of heavy traffic without nobody running into us. The black smoke was horrible. Nobody hit us while we sat on the side of the interstate for over an hour waiting for help. Semis and vehicles zooming by on the curve we were stuck on, driving over the white line, scaring the hell out of my children an me. Nearest ford dealer ended up with our van. After almost 5 months, Jan 24 they give us our van back. My husband insisted on them driving it to our house over 100 miles away for fear of Lot Rot, something going wrong with it on my way home. He did’t want me driving it by myself all that way with the kids. We don’t trust it any more. Gabus Ford in Des moines, where it was “:fixed” drove it to my house on 3 flat tires and ruined them. They shorted me $72 off my rental that was put on my credit card also. We had to beg them to replace the tire that was ruined when the axle broke. They didn’t put my spare away either, left it in the trunk. Poor customer service. And all the manager at this ford dealer could say to me is: “at least you got 6 good years out of your van”, not even a sorry for your misfortune.
Larry: They did not start my van 1 time in almost 5 months it sat on the lot. I know this because the day the axle came in and they put it in, they called me and asked how to turn the alarm off when they start it. If they start yours, they are either lying to you are a rare lucky person
Our Windstar has been waiting at the dealer since mid Nov. Ours is a 2000 that we bought new. To Ford’s credit, They did not just snip off the corner of the floor mat like Toyota and send us on our way until they developed a cheap 50-cent cure. It is my understanding that the dealers are being paid $600 labor per car, and Ford is furnishing the parts plus the rentals, And keeping the hazardous vehicles off the road. All manufacturers have had similar safety issues like Ford and Toyota and I think Ford has handled the safety aspect of the issue better than others.
Having said that, I think that Ford has handled the PR of this issue poorly. We have not been contacted by the dealer or Ford since the day we had the car inspected, although we were lead to believe that a buy-back was a possibility. I would have been thrilled if Ford would have contacted us with a buy-back by now or a substantial trade-in incentive; that should have been worth 3 or 4 months of rental and $1000 repair to a 10 yr old car.
Our local TV News reported on the recall a couple months ago and had a follow up story last weekend. They reported that there is another recall issue concerning the front engine/transaxle sub-frame could brake off too. I contacted the dealer on Monday and they confirmed the sub-frame recall although the recall notices have not yet been sent out. I was also informed that the buy-back (repurchase) program ended on Dec. 31 and since WE did not request a repurchase by the deadline, we are ineligible for a repurchase. The dealer claims that the axles will be in by the end of Feb. and that they will have all cars repaired by the end of March. I estimate that our dealer has about 150 vans sitting in the back lot. I also phoned Ford Customer Service and they also confirmed that parts are being shipped now and also confirmed the sub-frame issue and that the those will be inspected and repaired if necessary at the time of the rear axle repair. I asked if we will have to wait another 3 months for front axle parts. The answer was no, and that a repurchase offer will be an option if the front was not repairable.
I suggest that owners contact your dealer and tell them you are aware of the potential sub-frame failure and ask what your options are and I suggest that you insist on exercising a repurchase now. Maybe Ford will re-open the repurchase program if enough of us demand it in lieu of the front end issue. The last thing you want is for the dealer to repair the front end without notifying you of the potential problem.
My van is another in the line to be repaired. I dropped it off the end of October and still waiting. The garage that I took it to has been very helpful to us. I am on the top of the list for when the axles come in. They said it was first come first serve. Well I am #1 with 5 others behind mine. They recently pulled it into the garage to melt some of the ice off of it.
The part that is really getting to me is that Ford isn’t keeping us or the garages updated on when parts are coming.
I also can not afford a car payment so I am hoping to get it fixed soon.
I have come up with a few good points behind this entire thing:
1. I am not putting miles on my vehicle but on a rental one.
2. I get to drive a rental to see what I would like some time in the future.
3. My van is not getting covered in salt and slush from the winter weather up here.
Thank you to Timber Ford for all of their help in this ordeal.
I have checked my van weekly and started it on occasion to keep the juices flowing. Over the last several weeks, I have not been able to get to the dealership due to the severe weather in the Northeast. Actually made my way out this week into the sea of ice they are being held captive in. As you all know, yep, dead battery. Some hope in sight? I saw some workers from the dealership attempting to chop a van out of the ice using shovels and pick axes. I can just see my van now, with a pick axe sticking out of the hood cause someone swung too close.
These vans won’t budge until the spring thaw comes whenever that will be. Supposed to be 50 degrees today, but go back down into the teens tonight. So everything that thaws today will refreeze tonight. Sigh
No word from the dealership. They “heard” Ford is starting to ship replacement axles, but they haven’t received any. Now another recall???
Good day all here is one for you, I was on my way to work in Philadelphia when my Windstars axel broke, my windstar begin to shake the front of the van wobbled I dont know what that was all about, then the axel broke( lucky thing I clocked some hours on xbox’s burnout) lol anyway here’s the kicker called my job told my department head what had happend, she said to me can you still make it to work. never asked me if i was ok or did I need any help. thanks boss lady!!!
here are some other problems with the windstar that I know of.
1. wiper system stop working
2. ac / heater switch makes a knocking noise
3. speedometer not on correct speed.
4. rear vent windows stop working
if anyone has any other knowledge please add to the list and let’s get ford to repair all the problems with the windstar. facebook.com Lamont Harris (look for chef photo)
After 4 months of being in a rental car i got a call on Friday that my car was finally fixed! Get there to pick it up and they have to jump start it because the battery is dead and won’t hold a charge they said they could put one in for 110.00 bucks. You would think that after having it sit there for 4 months as a courtesy that they could have put in a battery. Very disappointed with the dealer.
My 2000 Windstar passed the rear axle inspection last year, but now didn’t pass the front axle one. So far I’m satisfied with the way this issue has been handled.
Got a nice rental car (2011 Toyota RAV4) with full coverage insurance for as long as it takes. I don’t mind them waiting for parts and taking their time with the repairs.
If Ford decides they want to re-buy my van, they’d have to offer me a good chunk of money, definitely a lot more than the blue book value. I like my Windstar; it has been very reliable so far and I’ve had no other issues with it. You wouldn’t believe that car is over 10 years old; it looks good inside and out.
I just took my 1999 Ford Windstar in to the shop for the Axle Recall… Yikes……
Both the Front and Rear Axle are damaged—— This might be a blessing for us… I just repaced the windshield motor over the weekend– The wipers quit working——– The left blinker quit working—– Replace the bulb—–Not the problem—— Problem is the rear electrical distribution box—- $600.00— I know the cost b/c I replaced it a year before——–Ford wil not replace it b/c it was 3 days out of warrenty——Thanks Ford—— Rear A/C and Heater headed south also—Ford put us into a rental until they decide what to do——They took photos of the Axle’s and sending them to the engineering department–
Sat on my 98 Windstar recall letter for 3 months. Finally took it to Henry Day Ford after returning from a long trip. Yup. Small rusty crack in front middle of rear axle, after they repaired the door-ajar warning system for $90 diagnostic and another $100 for electrical sensor part in the rear door. Rear wiper stopped working too. But we still like this van better than the 2010 Chrysler Town&Country rental from Enterprise (who tried hard to sell us insurance, but Rear River Mutual covers minivan rental with collision because my newer truck has collision). My bet is we’ll be driving this rental into April, because Utah got on the recall list after the midwest did.
New recall on the vans for corrosion on the front and rear mounts .
Had the axel checked and it was ok but the mounts were not .
Ford deemed the van not repairable and offered book value .
Van only had 7000 miles and was in good condition.
Ford is not treating it’s customer as if they want them to return.
Have had nothing but Fords for many years but that is about to change.
my 2002 windstar is in the shop by ford since oct.26 2010 for a craked axel they gave me a rental they are paying $48.00 a day and the dont want to buy it back my van has handy cap plates on it . and i want my van fixed or another one at equill value i will never buy anothr ford
MY 99 WINDSTAR LX HAS STEERING RACK (STEERING FLUID LEAK) PROBLEMS AND I’M CONCERNED ABOUT THE AXEL FAILURE PROBLEM.
I”M DRIVING STRONG ARM CURRENTLY AS THE PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACED 2 STEERING PUMPS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD.
THE NORTH VANCOUVER FORD DEALERSHIP (CAM CLARK FORD), STATED THAT FORD CANADA WILL COVER $43 DOLLARS PER DAY FOR A RENTAL.
I’M NOT GETTING THE INSPECTION DONE UNTIL I,M GUARANTEED I’LL BE GIVEN A DECENT MINIVAN TO REPLACE MY WINDSTAR DURING THE ASSESSMENT/REPAIR.
I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH A $3,300 BUY OUT FROM FORD AS THE EMMISSION /COMPUTER SENSORS PREVENTED PASSING OF THE AIR CARE EMMISSION/POLLUTION STANDARDS ACCORDING TO AIR CARE COMPUTER DIOGNOSTICS.
THE I.C.B.C. BOOK VALUE OF THE 99 WINDSTAR LX IS APPROX. $3,350.
ANY SIMILIAR SITUATIONS AS MINE AROUND VANCOUVER B.C. CANADA?
I’m waiting for a new rear axle for my 2002 windstar. I’d like to hear about the scope of the axle replacement work, and whether the vans drive the same after the change.
I have 2 of these P.O.S.’s, a 2000 SE and a 2003 SE. I have owned Ford vehicles for the past 25 years. (First car was 86 Escort GT.) Loved it. Love everything about my Fords, looks, ergonomics, materials, build quality, etc. I even loved my 2000 Windstar SE which has 126K on it and was my first “man-van” I bought used with 35K on it when I turned in my lease 99 F-150 off-road. Had the usual tranny replaced at 95k, the 0171 and 0174 codes fix, and has unfortunately rusted quite a bit, but aside from that I cant kill it. Hell, I liked so much I bought another to replace it , but this 2003 drives totally different from my 2000 so much I can stand it, I let my 16 y.o. daughter drive the clean rust-free 2003. Long story. So I got my notice back in Nov. 2009 and took both in for inspection and the 2000 failed the inspection and the 2003 passed. Lucky for her or she’d be driving the rusty one. I got a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT rental from Enterprise and have had it since. I have heard nothing about when the rear axle will be coming in and I just got my notice about the front now! Im beyond pissed now. Not only did I not know I had to “ask ” for a possible buyout on my vehicle, Ford has since paid Enterprise roughly $3600 in rental costs for this, they are also going to sink another $700-900 in repairs to my POS 2000 van with 126K on it. Wouldnt of it been cheaper and safer to take this thing off the road! As far as the 2003, I now have to take that one in to be inspected on the front end, I and all of us Windstar owners, now have vehicles that we no longer feel safe in, dont want back, but nor can we sell them because these vehicles have been stigmatized with both electrical, mechanical and major structural defects that nobody in their right mind would dare purchase. So what it boils down to is, Ford, you should have just bought us all out, sold the vans to scrapyards for parts and cut the frames rendering them un-repairable, and then offered us special incentives or “Sorry we sold you a POS, but heres an additional $4000 rebate, over and above our current offers” rebate and sent us on our way. I would have considered a Flex or “New ” Explorer in this case. Ford should secede to some type of Lemon Law on these vans and be done with it! Whats next? I still owe $4K on my 2003 and its in fab condition. in and out, and would consider trading it in or selling outright, but who would buy it after all of this! There’s your lawsuit! Ford has devalued all of our vehicles to the point of worthlessness. Might as well be driving a Pinto, theyre both worth the same.! Of course the Windstar hasnt exploded….yet!
My Ford Windstar has been sitting on a lot since Dec 30. They tried placing me in a Ford Fusion….Im sorry I had a van for a reason. They told me Ford will only rent Ford but I was given a Dodge Caravan until a bigger Ford came in. The bigger Ford being a truck extend a cab….Well I dont want tp put gas in that. I call ed Ford Canada directly and told them I had a van recalled I wanted a van in its place and that I had a Dodge Van. They were very nice and advised me if I was happy with this than I could rent it for the duration and they would pay for it. Im just curious as to where to find updates and to even know when the parts are being shipped or if they have been. Now the word is they are investigating the front axles. Thinking at this point be cheaper for Ford to give us all new cars. lol
there is a second recall for corrosion on the front and rear mounts. I passed the rear axel inspection but failed the mounts inspection. Ford deemed the van not repairable and is giving me a buy out. Not enough to make loosing the van acceptable.
I have a 1999 Windstar that I just bought in June. I got the recall notice for the rear axle in October. Took it into the dealership they said it showed no signs of cracking and informed that I would be getting another letter from Ford when the parts became available to fix it anyways. Well I got the recall notice in the mail on 2-26-11 for the front end problem. Took it to Milnes Ford and they said it was showing signs of cracking. That it needed to be taken off the road but they were going to let me go ahead and drive it home since none of the Enterprise Rentals in a 30 mile radius of us had anything available. I was only home a few hours when the service man at Ford called and told me they found a Jeep Patriot for me. I guess the dealership just got the replacement parts for the axles in and they will be re-enforcing that as well as fixing the front end issue while it’s there. The Patriot is nice but it’s small and hard for my handicapped father to get in out of not to mention his wheel chair. My van had a wheel chair lift, this Patriot doesn’t. I hope Ford doesn’t try to buy it out from me because I owe more then what they will give me, since I don’t have the credit to get financed through a bank I’m buying at a buy here pay here place and I know I’m paying more for it then it’s worth. But I didn’t have much of a choice. I had to have a vehicle to get my dad to his doctor appointments. I’m just thankful that neither of the recall issues happened while I was driving down the road. And like someone else said I’m ok with driving the rental they are paying for and putting the wear and tear on that along with the miles. Plus this Jeep is a 4 cylinder and get’s way better mpg then my van.
Why didn’t they include older Windstars that are in road salt states? I bought my 96 Windstar in 98, in Indiana where it has been the whole time. Yes it is old with about 125K miles and has had many parts repaired…..but is there something about the OLDER models that says their axles won’t be affected by rust/cracking problem? I think they should include the older vans as well. With all the recalls on these Windstars, they should just get them all off the road and be done with it.
03/18/2011 Detroit, Ford is giving me runaround for rental problems. I have folks who are senior who has their vehicle taken away from there in one state and they live in another state. They are having problem getting rentals. I spoke to ford representative “Krystal” and they seems to giving me run around. Ford was no 1 in quality but number 0 in customer service. Can someone give me contact number for super lawyer.
Thanks
Hiren
OK, this won’t be popular, but some of the people who have commented here with some strong comments about how Ford is treating them re their 12 or so year old vehicle. People–Listen to yourselves. Take a good look in the mirror. Maybe go get a box of tissues.
I have a 2000 Windstar. It has the front and rear recalls out on it as well. It hauls my family as well. That car has 245,000+ miles on it. I bought it new, and–to be honest–that van has been VERY VERY good to us. Still original engine and trans. I’ve had to fix nickel/dime things like a water pump, and the stupid plugged EGR ports in the manifold thanks to excessive PCV oil pull-over (which is one of the few things I will ding the Ford engineers about — that shouldn’t have gotten out).
Back to the point:
I know we are all VERY sensitive to these sorts of things because these vehicles haul our families around (why else would you buy one? Not exactly a sexy ride…). HOWEVER, to suggest that Ford has pawned off some serious quality problem on its customers based on this is more than just a bit of a stretch. Look, many of these cars that are 10+ years old and have been continuously subjected to road salt in winters.
I’m not saying that the situation doesn’t suck–because it does suck. I’m sure that very few people who got the recall notice were sitting there looking for a reason to get rid of their Windstar (like I said, if you have one, it’s usually because you NEED one, or you can’t afford to replace it right then). Sometimes it’s made worse by the hassles that you have to go through along the way (dealership service folks, rental car folks, etc). I’m not trying to minimize any of that. What I WOULD like to ask is for every one of the people who are ready to bi*** and complain to start by looking at the odometer on their vehicle. Most of the posts seem to not include that info, and to have a meaningful conversation, that really ought to be the first piece of info the owners share if they want the complaint to hold any water. Where I come from, if you can’t back up a complaint with some facts, it’s just alot of bi***ing…
For me, this sucks because I might be losing the service of a vehicle that has been, for the most part, a darned good vehicle. Not flashy, not especially good at any one thing, but a general jack-of-all-trades grocery-getter/family-hauler. If I do the math on this car, amortizing out the purchase price over the number of years I’ve owned it and figuring in repair costs (not scheduled maint, or tires, or breaks, but true repairs), This car has cost me less than $200/month, and it’s had between 20,000 and 25,000 miles per year put on it during that time.
Yes, it sucks that this is hapenning, because I might be forced to buy a replacement vehicle, and my bank account’s not ready for that right now. However, as a grown up, I’ve got to be honest. If a meteor fell out of the sky tomorrow and destroyed my Windstar, I’d have to admit, I did OK on this car.
Our windstar was made to pick up my husbands wheelchair and the steering and braking was also hooked up for a handicap person. So you can imagine our anger finding out we had to turn our vechile over to ford especially when they refused to take out the equiptment for us. But after taking it out myself and thinking about what could have happen to my family had ford not grounded these cars (after all they are more than 11 years old) I realized ford is doing the right thing at a major loss to there company. After all how many years is a dealer really liable for a car most would say 5 years or 50,000 miles right. So maybe we should be happy we are safe and getting money back. Yes its a pain in the butt. But it could have been worse had we been one of the people in an accident due to the rear axial cracking. Good luck to all of us.
So- I was curious, are there any physical noticeable symptoms that the 2000 Windstar would experience that may denote that one has the rear axle problem? Or is this just a quiet thing, that does it’s major mess when it goes?
Well – this log seems to be dead – no input since 3/25 – my van declared dead by ford, ford was extremely fair in the buyout pay. Thank You Ford
to fresh perspective: Hey fact is My van had 95,000 miles, was regularly serviced and garaged. My husband was a Ford Dealer. Fact my axle broke in 2 pieces on the interstate last September and nearly killing my children and I at 65 mph in heavy traffic on a holiday weekend. Fact it was a 2001 van that was 10 years old. Fact vehicles last at least 12 yrs or more. Fact you are an idiot! Fact, I just want a safe vehicle to drive. Fact I spent $16,000 for a vehicle that lasted me only 5 years. Fact: Ford does not care about people, just bottom almighty dollar line. Fact you are still an idiot!
Well the service manager from the dealership I took my van to on March 4th called me on Friday at 12:30p.m.. She said your van is done and you need to bring the rental back RIGHT NOW, or get your going to get charged for it. I told her I would call her back in a few minutes. When I called her back I said look lady, I don’t appreciate being talked to that way. You can not call me with no notice and expect me to re-arrange my schedule to return the rental. I will be there at 10a.m. tomorrow morning. When I picked it up yesterday morning she wasn’t working. I found out that they didn’t fix the rear axle like they were supposed to. That they only did the sub frame recall. They also power washed my van which I appreciated but I did not appreciate the fact that the 2 little spots of rust that were on the drivers side rear passenger door that still had paint on them, had been sanded and now there is rust all along the bottom of the door. Now if I don’t take it and get the whole van re-painted it’s going to rust through. And I have to deal with the witchy lady tomorrow to find out why the rear axle wasn’t re-enforced like it was supposed to have been while they had my van.
My husband took are 2001 windstar in last year for the speed control recall. He was told about the on the rear axel but nothibg was done$ Last night it broke in half on us.
well i have a, or had a 2003 until about a week ago i was going about 45-50 mph on the expressway “in the rain” when my car started to wobble and bang. i ended up almost flipping when i slamed into a gaurd rail. i was scary to say the least. i normally would have my 2yr old in the car, thank god i was alone this time. my car is just sitting.and im have no way to get to work, which sucks because im a single father. ive only just heard of the recalls after looking online for parts prices. there would be no way for me to pay to have it fixed. i hope ford does the right thing.monday morning they’ll be hearing from me. good luck everyone!
ford dealership in moncton canada did the recall work on my 2001 windstar put a new rear axle in it and worked on front sub frame gave me a rental for 2months paid by ford had said vehicle back a month or 2 had to take it in for nb vehicle inspection they told me the rocker panels need to be replaced to pass inspection now what i don”t understand they do all this recall work and do not give the whole undercarriage of the vehicle a good look to determine if the vehicle is worh fixing and if not buy you out seems like an awful waste of fords time and money to do recall work only to render your vehicle to not be road worthy a short time later and not only render it useless but will not consider it for a trade because of the recall and did not buy me out makes no sense.
