Wright County Egg Recalls Shell Eggs Because of Possible Health Risk

August 14, 2010

The following statement was released by officials of Wright County Egg regarding the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) on-farm records review and egg testing for Salmonella.

Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa is voluntarily recalling specific Julian dates of shell eggs produced by their farms because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis or arthritis.

Eggs affected by this recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and foodservice companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. These companies distribute nationwide.

Eggs are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps. Eggs are packed in varying sizes of cartons (6-egg cartons, dozen egg cartons, 18-egg cartons) with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1946 223.

There have been confirmed Salmonella enteritidis illnesses relating to the shell eggs and traceback investigations are ongoing.

Wright County Egg is fully cooperating with FDA’s investigation by undertaking this voluntary recall. Our primary concern is keeping Salmonella out of the food supply and away from consumers. As a precautionary measure, Wright County Egg also has decided to divert its existing inventory of shell eggs to a breaker, where they will be pasteurized to kill any Salmonella bacteria present.

Consumers who believe they may have purchased these shell eggs should not eat them but should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. This recall is of shell eggs only. Other egg products produced by Wright County Eggs are not affected. Consumers with questions should visit www.eggsafety.org9.

It sounds like baloney to me. How can 228m eggs be infected? Not likely. Sounds like strong and extortionist tactics to gain control of our national produce at all levels. There is a bill on the floor of SB S510 (developed by Monsanto) to gain control of all seeds and food supplements and foods in general, making it illegal for anyone outside of corporations under their control to grow, share, or transport produce, food supplements, meats, or any foods in the U.S. (naming someone in Monsanto as Food Cszar).

If some (paid off) strong arm inspector comes and screams “salmanella”, and it gets national attention, then the government will feel vindicated in pushing this bill (SB S510) through.

Unfortunately some people were hurt, but does it mean that the problem was with the producer, or with the transporter into the affected areas? Reporting and investigation of this issue was greatly inadequate and may have adversely affected your company.

We hope that your company (Wright County Egg) can get the word out and survive any strong arm tactics coming down. We hope that you are not part of the push to get this bill through. In addtion, we have seen this same thing in the past few years with tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, and other produce…mere FOOD SCARES.

As far me and my house, we will serve the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

I don’t understand what any of this has to do with the “Lord Jesus Christ” but I will reach out to Wright County Egg and let them know that we will publish a complete, unedited response if they wish to provide one.

I commend wright county egg for voluntarily recalling the eggs. though 380 million since may i think is a bit long. what i ask is shouldn’t the threat have been detected back in may? and what masked the infection so it was able to hide until now.. I have eaten many of the infected series since then but have suffered no ill effects or none that i have attributed to the eggs… funny thing is i had a 18 tray and was down to my last one when the news hit..sorry guys no sick yet ! what i am asking you now is what are the names of the local stores that sell the eggs..such as wal mart ( who has so far eluded any reference to the fact if they sell said item.. i simply ask is it possible to get that list..I do not buy from major distributors i buy from local stores..the best price for that day.
hope we get thru this with our skin still intact but I would like that list… where do i find it? and as to the god thing my reply to her is huh!!!

    Unfortunately she is correct.

And as to the God thing… she is saying the law will not be followed. In other words she is not going to let an issue with commercial eggs affect her to the point that she is going to get rid of her hens out of fear there might be an issue with guys who make a living pointing guns at people. GET IT NOW?

Oh yeah, I’m a nut too right?

Thanks for clarifying that Mega me. We are aware of S510. We are aware of amendments to it as well, such as the Tester-Hagen Amendment. We have posted on here several times before about other bills, such as NAIS. We’ve all read Everything I Do is Illegal and the Raw Milk Revolution. We’ve all heard the talking heads on cable and radio news spout their opinions. Believe it or not, we’re not all blind, deaf and illiterate.

By the way, nobody called anybody a nut.

Have something to share?
