WASHINGTON, D.C.- THE U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION (CPSC) ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT DAISO HOLDING USA INC., DAISO SEATTLE LLC, OF SEATTLE, WA AND DAISO CALIFORNIA LLC, OF HAYWARD, CA HAVE AGREED TO PAY A $2.05 MILLION CIVIL PENALTY AND STOP IMPORTING CHILDREN’S PRODUCTS AND TOYS INTO THE UNITED STATES. DUE TO ALLEGED VIOLATIONS OF FEDERAL SAFETY LAWS, THE COMPANY MUST NOW DEMONSTRATE TO THE COMMISSION THAT IT HAS SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF AND IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH CPSC SAFETY STANDARDS AND TESTING REQUIREMENTS.

General Motors has quietly announced a recall of over one million compact cars, as posted in a statement dated March 2nd, 2010 on the GM website. This recall affects the power steering units in the following automobiles:
• 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
• 2007-2010 Pontiac G5
• 2005-206 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada)
• 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 (Mexico)
The automobiles referencing other countries are the locations where they were sold, not manufactured.

Columbus, Ohio – T. Marzetti Company today announced as a precautionary measure that it is voluntarily recalling certain production codes of T. Marzetti Veggie Dips, Oak Lake Chip Dips and Great Value Chip Dips because an ingredient used in the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the identified products, and no other types, varieties of flavors of products are affected by this recall.

Castella Imports of Hauppauge, NY, is voluntarily recalling Castella Chicken Soup Base because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
