The FDA and McNeil Consumer Healthcare today announced a recall on millions of units of various over-the-counter (OTC) medications, including certain Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and Rolaids products. This OTC medication recall is being conducted after an investigation into reports of an unusual moldy, mildew-like smell coming from the containers, which in some cases caused gastrointestinal problems like nausea, stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhea.

HP Hood is recalling select Heluva Good branded 8 oz. plastic cup containers of Cold Pack Cheese Food because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness and nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

These products are being recalled due to a packaging defect that potentially could cause the pouches to swell or leak. Swollen or leaking pouches may indicate problems with the product, including possible contamination by bacteria that can cause illness, or that the packaging has been compromised and is at risk of bacterial contamination.
