I had the exact same problem. No problems. Had the recall service done and now the liftgate will close and not catch and will re-open on its own. Also, now the auto open button in the car and on the remote work intermittently. It will open, but not close at times. The dealership says it will cost $400-$1000 to fix. Went in to dealership and they said they never had that happen before...imagine that?

I never had a problem with my liftgate but because of the recall had the struts changed. What a mistake that was. Now I am having problems with the liftgate not closing. I am now being told the motor is the problem and that it would cost about $1,000 to replace it. Thanks Toyota.
