FDA and US Marshals Seize Pet Food at Petco Warehouse

At the request of the US Food and Drug Administration US Marshals today seized pet food products from the Petco Animals Supplies Distribution Center in Joliet, IL. This comes after a warrant was issued by the US District Court in Chicago.

The pet food storage facility violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act because it allegedly had been storing pet food under “unsanitary conditions” during an FDA inspection of the Petco distribution center in April of this year.

During the April inspection FDA inspectors reported “widespread and active rodent and bird infestations“. After a follow-up visit last month FDA officials found “continuing active and widespread infestation”.

Margaret Glavin, Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs had this to say about the pet food seizer at the Petco distribution center:

Consumers expect that such safeguards will be in place not only for human food, but for pet food as well.

FDA is urging consumers to take necessary precautions when handling animal food products purchased from Petco. Consumers who have handled this pet food should thoroughly wash their hands with hot water and soap. Surfaces that have come in contact with the pet food or packaging should be washed as well.

If a pet has become ill after eating pet food from Petco, owners are to contact their veterinarian first and report the illnesses to FDA State Consumer Complaint Coordinators.

Are you as sick of this as we are? Here is an article from the last big pet food recall about How to Make Your Own Pet Food.

Lady your 20 year old cat??? A fair wind or any numbers of the smallest incident or aliment would impact an ancient fossil of a feline you are claiming Petco fed your cat. Your cat probably should have been on a special senior diet and any number of medications from a Vet. You are by far the most idiotic ass I have come across in a long time. You are to blame if anything when it comes down to feeding your animal YOU need to be checking the ingredients on the bag because it is YOU that has the last hand in what your animals diet is. Yes, Petco is a big corporation but like Walmart is part of a necessary economic balance that employs millions and provides a service to chose who willingly choose to shop there. Sometimes foods have problems; it’s part of life deal with it and in the end realize the owners of Petco and it’s employees did not manufacture the food you probably fed good ol’ Mr. Wiskers; each brand comes from a different Company and it is the U.S government that regulates inspections and standards to be set forth on what is to be printed on each nutrition label for your pet. So why hasn’t your Congressman responded you ask? Because you are a moron and they responded to every asshole with a half of a brain like you we’d be in even harder times than now.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you Lisa!! I once lost a pet due to PETCO’s “Puppy Mill” God I wish I would have known about the ASPCA back then!!

Last year we lost our 20 year old cat due to the naglect of having food perpared and checked properly at our borders!! It was you guessed it!! “special kitty” food that wound up killing Sugar.

My husband and I did not know about it until they aired the symtoms of the animals that had eaten the food, and Sugar had EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!

I recently joined the ASPCA and have allready e-mailed my congress men, governor and even the president and president elect!!

The gov. of Ga. is a trained vet, I have not heard back from him yet as I only sent him the information 2 days ago, but I know I will!! I will STOP AT NOTHING to see our animals protected as well as families, children, the elderly and the disabled!! Our pets deserve at LEAST THAT MUCH!!

I will also STOP at NOTHING to see PETCO lose their license COMPLETLY!!

IF you don’t like what is happining to our pets, the only why it is going to change is to stand up to these big corperations by boycotting, telling EVERYONE you know NOT TO SHOP WITH THEM, write your congressmen and get off your rear ends and STOP COMPLAINING about what the orgs. are doing to HELP PROTECT our animals and DO SOMETHING YOUR SELF!!!!

It has occured to me that there are experimental drugs being put into the food given to the homeless people in the shelters across the east coast. It is a way to test the drug on unexpecting individuals. If you have any knowledge of this or need my help in any way please feel free to contact me at the following web adress listed above.
There are also supermarkets and convienent stores that are involved in the same scam. The stores will recieve the merchanise open it place the drugs within. Afterwards they will vacuum seal or glue the merchandise closed,to be put back on the self to sell to the consumers.

PETA, aspca, fda,”get on the ball and get the lead out and do something about it”
