Hey guys... just keep in mind that toys are not the only main cause of lead poisoning. They just draw the most media attention. Lead accumulates in the human body from very early on, and toys simply add to it.

What is this other source? Food.

Yep, you heard it. Your children and yourselves are at risk because of the FOOD you eat. This is because of hunters who use lead bullets.

For those who don't know, lead bullets explode on impact, sending tiny, sharp particles throughout the body. While most hunters pick up their bullet shrapnel, there are MILLIONS of tiny particles left that are impossible to see. A simple web search for x-rays of animals shot with lead bullets show how infested with lead they are. And those animals are sent TO BE EATEN by everyday people.

Now, you may think I am just going for vegetarianism. However, I enjoy my bacon like the rest of you- I just like to be sure it is lead free.

Also, you think, "Well, I don't eat venison, or duck, so I must be safe." WRONG! Animals such as USA's symbol, the Bald Eagle, come upon the entrails and eat them- and the lead. When they die, the lead is washed away into grass.

The grass is then grazed on by cattle- the same cattle you eat.

The lead in cattle is inhaled by workers, or ingested by Joe Schmo on the street. The lead builds up and is amplified when you have lead paint or toys, until your body cannot fight it off anymore.

The way to stop it? Copper bullets. Copper bullets simply expand on impact, causing a less painful death and easy cleanup.

Please let people know of this problem, and be careful with what you eat or play with.

I think you guys are forgetting a couple of things-

One, it isn't necessarily China's fault. Okay, so much of the blame lies there, but it also lies in the United States. We are known as the CONSUMER country. That is what we do: consume. There is a great movie that people should watch called The Story of Stuff. It explains many of the consumer problems of America, without being overly technical or boring.

Two, the driving force that makes the China/USA economic system work is greed. We were looking for cheap labor and cheap products, which sent us over to the Chinese, Japanese, and many others. Every shopper looks for the lowest price, which happens to be made in China. This is because:

Three, working conditions. Companies are SUPPOSED to watch over their workers, but what if it costs them extra money? Money that would usually go into the manager's pocket. This isn't just in China, it's all over the world. America had the same problems years ago, and it was just hushed up.

Not that this applies to everybody in the US or China.

In answer to some of the comments-
Reselling or donating recalled items is illigal, but sometimes the sellers/donators don't know about the recalls.
You can test items for lead. There are kits at toys r us, Lowes, etc.

YOU as the consumer/buyer of all products have the infinite power to NOT BUY products made in China. They have proven over and over again how little regard they have for the safety of the products they make. It is your fault if you continue to support this poor/unsafe manufacturing of products.

Everyone say buy American but would you spend $10.00 dollars on an item made in America that you could get made in China for $5.00. No I don't may people would we need to look in the mirror and realize that we do it everyday. We are a society of lazy welfare driven people that would do anything to save a buck. We worry so much about lead poison in our kids toys but, have no problem shoving unhealthy and fating fast food down there throats. Live well, long and do what ever the hell you want in life.

I dont think we should buy anymore toys from china because all it does is risks how childrens life and health.
If we do buy anything from china I feel everything should be checked thoroughly before bringing it to the united states.

why are people still aloud to donate recalled items. In used stores some don't know what's being recalled. I think people shouldn't be able to donate items either.

I tried to purchase a Simpson's Dr. Hibbert Island toy from The Dollar general. I was not buying it for a child but as a gift for an adult. It came up as a recalled toy and it could not be sold. When I looked on Ebay I found some being sold. Can recalled toys still be sold on Ebay or at resale stores? I do volunteer work to raise money and we get a lot of toy donations to sell to raise money. Do I need to familiarize myself with all the recalled toys and not sell them? I purchase toys for my grandchildren also. Can we send these items back to the companies that produced them if they are recalled and have them replaced or get a refund?

[...] seems a little extreme. If shopkeepers take a moment to familiarize themselves with the latest recall lists as well as what objects typically contain lead paint, I see no reason why they can’t continue [...]

I think all these recalls are a big hoax. Somehting isn't sitting right about all these recalls all of the sudden in 2008 by the "newly" formed CPSC. Now, they have passed a law requiring ALL businesses to have independent lead testing done, which in turn, is putting millions of small US businesses, out of business. Smells fishy to me.
