ATV Recall Bonanza – Recalled Honda 4-Wheelers

December 24, 2005

They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. This is the fourth ATV recall we have posted about this month, each from different manufacturers.

This time Honda has recalled about 24,000 of their TRX 400EX Four-Wheelers because of a transmission problem that could allow the rider to downshift from 1st gear into reverse without using the reverse lockout lever.

Although no injuries have been reported, all Honda Model ‘05 and ‘06 TRX400EX ATVs are to be returned to the place of purchase for service. Consumers are advised to stop riding these ATV Fourwheelers immediately.

For more information, call Honda at 866-784-1870 or visit the Honda Power Sports website at www.powersports.honda.com .

US Recall News will try to keep you updated on other Four Wheeler (ATV) Recalls in the future, but our advice is to buy a used one. The models from this past year just don’t seem to be working out.

I phurchased a 2005 450r .It has been back to dealer do to engine failer 6 mons after I bought it. 6mons. later same thing only more internal and external damage. honda warr.won’t fix, dealer [Riders world says atv well maintained. warr.rep won't speake to us and honda warr. co.investigate reps. so called [Hydro-lock]No evidence to support this. While out @ a atv trail in gilbert ther was arecall for a 15.00 part to fix this .Funny thing the first time my motor quite a week later another bike [same model} same problem. Honda gave the dealer a hard time about paying for repairs. It is now sitting on the Pa.Att. Gens. offce desk.Another burocratic mud hole.

The past fall of 2006 I bought two new Rincon 07 models with the fuel injection only to hope I improved my machines. I took back the first one because of a knock in the engine after it warmed up. It sounds like a old sewing machine when it idles. Well after what is going on two months of sitting in the shop, 2 camshafts, an oil pump chain, a timing chain tensioner, it still knocks! The other one I still have at home also knocks after it warms up and if it is 80 degrees outside it is even worse as I live in the north country and right now it is December. Now they say it will be another month before a factory rep will be able to look at it and that I should drive it. I asked them what kind of engine damage will be delayed because of this engine knock later on down the road. What kind of company would tell you to do that because it is a “normal” knock. I asked them what kind of an engine know “is normal”? I am getting no product support for this new 680 cc fuel injected engine whatsoever. Anyone out there know what I can do to get these people to listen and take care of a product that was not tested before it was put on the retail floor? I hope enough of you read this and don’t buy the Rincon or even a honda for that matter. I know I won’t!

I will never own another honda. I bought a Rubicon trx 500. I had about a year and very low mileage. I kept up th maintenance and I noticed a pinging noise so I took it back in. I was told no big deal. I had about 1,000 or so very low miles, and 2 trips later I went out to start her up and nothing. I have now invested in a starter a battery acylenoid and am being told its in the engine. I dont have hard miles on this, it was takin care of, so I have had it in and out of shop, more in then out, new oil filter, pump, now timing, and transmission is slipping. what a nightmare, machine made it long enough for warrenty to expire.

I live in Minnesota where it gets cold. I bought a 2004 Rubicon 4 wheeler 4 fishin hunting, fun stuff…I dont even have it paid for. It has lasted me about 2 years maybe I barely have over 1000 miles. In 2006 I noticed a low ping, I had already had it in for check up, but took it back, they told me the cold weather u would get some noise, but it wasnt cold weather yet, they said not to worry, they had checked it out and tuned it up. well about 3 trips later, she wouldnt start, now so far I have spent over 2,000.00 on nothings. Battery, starte, cylenoid, into motor, oil filter, pump, no sooner got her out and tranny went, well now its the timming, what a night mare, and it all started shortly after warrenty and check ups expired. they dont make em like they used to…What is a reliable ride?? Its not a HONDA

I bought a new 2007 Honda Rincon…I never took it off the lot. I test drove it for 5-10 minutes and it must have quit 15x. I started it (over and over), let it warm up, it ran worse than ever. The knocks were so hard it shook the whole vehicle. It wouldn’t idle and when you put it in gear, it died.
Needless to say, I’m cancelling my order.

I have a 2006 Honda TRX 400EX with a known reverse recall. First occasion approximantly 7 month after purchase trans jumps into reverse while in forward motion. Does $1400.00 worth of damage and dealer says recall doesn’t include serial number for my four wheeler. Would not put me in touch with rep. Sucks but paid bill and life goes on. Second occasion 1year 3months later, riding along on trail, quad goes into reverse again. Dealer still says recall doesn’t pertain to my quad but trans issues tell me different. HELP!!! If anyone knows how to get in touch with a regional rep or someone that will listen, please let me know.

I bought a new 07 Rincon, after 25 hrs on the bike the headgasket blew. I took it into the dealer and they replaced the headgasket, now the bike starts very hard, stalls alot, and has alot of engine noise. I took the bike to another mechanic, he said it is definately not normal, and the sound is mechanical. The dealer told me just to put alot of miles on it. Now I have a bike that I dont want to drive for fear of being stranded, and the warranty just run out. Any advice as to what this could be, I am probably going to have to pay for this out of my own pocket.

My 2004 foreman rubicon slips out of drive and goes into a low gear and will not come out. The D on the digital display disappears and the D1 D2 ESP all three remain on the digital screen. We have changed the computer and some of the wiring harness. The problem still persist.
